Rams’ Boys’ Track Takes 2nd in Shorelines; Girls’ Basketball Beats Wheeler

Boys’ Indoor Track

The Old Saybrook boys’ indoor track team finished in second place by totaling 111 points at the Shoreline Conference Championship at Floyd Little Athletic Center on Feb. 2. The Rams only finished behind Haddam-Killingworth, which scored 121 points to take the Shoreline crown. Old Saybrook saw several athletes earn All-Shoreline Conference First Team, Second Team, and Honorable Mention by placing first, second, and third, respectively, at the meet.

Old Saybrook received big points from its relay teams, including the 4x800 quartet of Luke Hanratty, Cooper Luciani, Shon Ryan, and Jacob Schneider, who grabbed the gold with a first-place time of 8:23.81. In the 4x400 relay, the team of Hanratty, Luciani, Jack Colella, and Max Thomas claimed first place with a mark of 3:40.01. The Rams also got big points in the 600 behind a first-place finish from Hanratty (1:26.37) and a second-place performance from Luciani (1:26.66). Colella finished first in the 300 with a time of 36.72 seconds.

Jon Barnes took second place in the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.53 seconds for Old Saybrook. Devon Moshier’s time of 6.83 earned him third place in the 55-meter dash, while Carlos Chacon finished sixth with a time of 6.94. Ryan claimed third place in the 1,600 (4:43.59) and placed fourth in the 3,200 (10:51.06). The 4x200 relay of Colella, Chacon, Moshier, and Thomas took fourth place with a time of 1:40. The 1,600 sprint medley relay team of Thomas, John Gableman, Moshier, and Schneider came in fourth place by timing in at 3:55.40. Jack Wiley turned in a time of 2:57.28 in the 1,000 to take sixth place.

Girls’ Basketball

The Rams notched their second win of the year by defeating Wheeler last week. Old Saybrook also took a loss against Old Lyme and has a record of 2-14 on the season.

On Jan. 28, the Rams hosted Wheeler and scored a 43-26 victory versus the Lions. Three days later, Old Saybrook lost a 56-40 home matchup against Old Lyme.

Boys’ Basketball

Old Saybrook took a loss to Old Lyme in its lone game last week. The defeat ended the Rams’ seven-game winning streak and put their record at 8-4 on the year.

On Feb. 1, Old Saybrook dropped a 70-47 decision at Old Lyme. The Rams held a 17-15 lead after the first quarter, but Old Lyme turned it on in the second quarter, and went up 34-25 at halftime on its way to the 23-point win. Shane Henderson scored 21 points to go with five rebounds and five assists for Old Saybrook. Davis Brown had 15 points and three rebounds, while Kam Baker recorded four points with five boards.
