H-K Girls’ Track Places 3rd at Shorelines; Boys’ Swimming Earns Win Versus Waterford

Girls’ Indoor Track

Autumn Coady took second place in the 55-meter hurdles to help the Haddam-Killingworth girls’ indoor track team turn in a third-place performance at the Shoreline Conference Championship on Feb. 2. The Cougars totaled 63 points to place third at the Floyd Little Athletic Center.

Coady crossed the finish line in 9.44 seconds to earn runner-up honors in the final of the 55. The Cougars’ 1,600 sprint medley relay of Elena Boyington, Ly-Linh Criscuolo, Ashely Duncanson, and Julia Callis finished second (4:45.51).

Lauren D’Amico finished third in the 1,600 (5:47.06), while Meara Bodak took fourth (5:47.59) in the event at Shorelines. Callis placed fourth in the 600 (1:47.83), and Brianna Minervino followed in fifth (1:51.01). Callis also came in sixth place for the long jump by reaching 15 feet-1.75 inches. Bodak (13:36.60) and Minervino (13:59.62) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 3,200. Morgan Schultz placed fifth for the pole vault with a height of 7 feet.

In relays, H-K’s 4x200 Boyington, Coady, Criscuolo, and Duncanson took fourth place (1:56.53); while the 4x400 quartet of Boyington, Coady, Hailey Cassidy, and D’Amico finished sixth (4:39.11).

Boys’ Swimming and Diving

The Cougars improved to 3-3 on the season by defeating Waterford 82-72 on Jan. 29.

H-K saw its 200 medley relay of Kyle Mazziotti, Malone Revis, Jimmy Clemente, and Christo Garrelts finish with a time of 1:51.11 to take first place at the meet. Zach Houlton won the 200 freestyle (1:53.64) and the 50 freestyle (23.99), Eli Houlton won the 100 butterfly (1:10.10) and the 500 freestyle (5:18.32), Mazziotti claimed first place in the 100 freestyle (55.86) and the 100 backstroke (57.80), while Revis earned the top spot for both the 200 individual medley (2:10.20) and the 100 breaststroke (1:09.34). H-K’s 200 freestyle relay of Garrelts, Clemente, Eli Houlton, and Zach Houlton finished first with a time of 1:40.62. The 400 freestyle relay of Garrelts, the Houlton brothers, and Mazziotti posted a time of 3:44.68 to take first place.

Garrelts finished second in the 200 freestyle (2:13.97), and Jonah Freeman took third place (2:16.58) for the Cougars. Clemente finished second for both the 50 freestyle (26.88) and the 100 butterfly (1:03.34). Freeman placed second in the 100 freestyle (57.74), and Carlson took second for the 500 freestyle (6:14.46). Nate Carlson finished third in the 200 IM with a mark of 2:28.90. H-K’s 200 freestyle relay of Freeman, Carlson, Etienne Huebner, and Revis finished in second place (1:53.81). The 400 freestyle relay featuring Huebner, Freeman, Colby Kish, and Carlson came in third with a time of 4:27.69.

Boys’ Basketball

The Cougars dropped a pair of contests last week and are now 5-8 on the year.

H-K lost to Morgan by the score of 64-45 on Jan. 29. The Cougars then took a 74-45 defeat versus Valley Regional on Feb. 1.

Girls’ Basketball

The Cougars moved to 3-13 after losing two recent games.

On Jan. 26, H-K dropped a 57-38 decision versus Morgan. Then on Jan. 31, the Cougars lost to Valley Regional by the score of 54-41.
