Glenn Takes the Long Jump for North Branford at Shorelines

Girls’ Indoor Track

Junior Mackenzie Glenn put forth a first-place performance in the long jump for the North Branford girls’ indoor track team at the Shoreline Conference Championship on Feb. 2. The Thunderbirds scored 36 points and finished in seventh place at Floyd Little Athletic Center.

Glenn reached a distance of 15 feet-9.25 inches to take first place in the long jump and score 10 points for North Branford at the Conference Championship. Glenn edged out Melissa Woodcock of Cromwell (15-7) for top honors in the event.

Sophomore Nadia Becker scored eight points for North Branford when she sprinted to a personal-best time of 7.87 seconds to claim second place in the 55-meter dash. Becker only finished behind only Andraya Yearwood of Cromwell (7.33) in the final heat after placing third in the preliminaries with a 7.97.

North Branford’s 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams both finished in third place to score a total of 12 points. The 4x200 group of Becker, sophomore Onna Gott, Glenn, and senior Ana Pavic clocked in at 1:53.55; while the 4x400 squad of Becker, Glenn, senior Gillian Pena, and Pavic finished with a time of 4:31.54. Pavic placed sixth in the 300 with a time of 44.68 seconds, earning three points for the T-Birds. Sphomore Riley Kendall scored three points with her sixth-place finish in the 600 with a mark of 1:52.38.

Other competitors for North Branford included Gott in the 600-meter run (9th, 1:56.13), Pena in the 55-meter hurdles (9th, 10.42), freshman Regan Leete in the 1,600 (12th, 6:23.55), senior Caitlin May in the 1,600 (19th, 6:36.57), and sophomore Ashlee Amendola in the 300 (20th, 49.99).

Boys’ Indoor Track

North Branford saw nearly all of its participants score points in the Shoreline Conference Championship last week. The T-Birds finished in ninth place with 15 points scored at the conference meet.

Senior Alvin Chan had the top finish for North Branford on the day by placing fifth in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:56.94. Chan scored four points for the T-Birds with his performance. Senior Michael Rabuffo earned a sixth-place spot in the 300-meter dash with a time of 38.56, junior Joe DeLucia was seventh in the 600 at 1:31.76, and senior Jeremy Conboy finished in eighth in the long jump at 18 feet-8 inches.

For relays, North Branford’s 4x400 and 4x200 squads finished in sixth and seventh place, respectively, at the meet. The 4x400 team of DeLucia, Conboy, junior Freddie Little, and Rabuffo ran a time of 3:58.88. Those same four athletes also joined forces to record a time 1:43.83 in the 4x200.

North Branford also saw two athletes run the 1,600 at Shorelines. Sophomore Robert Didiano finished 13th with a time of 5:17.25, while fellow sophomore Connor Leete finished in 5:37.17 to take 26th place.

Boys’ Basketball

North Branford lost a pair of games on the road last week and is now 1-13 this season.

North Branford took a 77-42 defeat at Valley Regional on Jan. 29. Junior Bret Fee scored 12 points for the Thunderbirds.

Then on Feb. 1, the T-Birds dropped a 71-32 decision in Cromwell.

Boys' Ice Hockey

The North Branford boys' ice hockey team earned its fourth win of the year by defeating Lyman Hall/Haddam-Killingworth 5-4 at Northford Ice Pavilion on Feb. 1. The T-Birds improved to 4-7-1 with the win.
