H-K Girls’ Hoops Picks Up Another Win; Boys’ Hockey Improves to 7-2

Girls’ Basketball

The Haddam-Killingworth girls’ basketball team split a pair of road matchups last week to move to 3-10 on the year.

H-K defeated Old Saybrook by the final score of 55-48 on Jan. 15. Three days later, the Cougars were back on the road to face North Branford and dropped a 46-45 decision against the Thunderbirds.

Boys’ Basketball

The Cougars stand at 4-4 after taking a loss versus Old Saybrook last week.

H-K lost a 69-59 contest against Shoreline Conference opponent Old Saybrook on Jan. 14. Matt Wills scored 15 points for the Cougars on the night. Jim McGoey had 14 points, and Andrew Kuehn added 13 points for H-K.

Ice Hockey

The Lyman Hall/Haddam-Killingworth boys’ ice hockey team improved to 7-2 after posting a road victory last week. The Trojans faced off against Bethel-Brookfield-Danbury and prevailed by a 3-0 shutout at Danbury Ice Arena on Jan. 16.

Boys’ Swimming and Diving

The Cougars took defeats against Sheehan and Brookfield last week to move to 1-3 this season.

On Jan. 15, H-K lost to Sheehan by the score of 86-77. Kyle Mazziotti won the 50 freestyle (23.52 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (55.82) for Haddam-Killingworth. Christo Garrelts took first in the 200 freestyle (2:04.50) and was second for the 100 freestyle (54.18). Jimmy Clemente swam to first place in the 100 butterfly (1:05.67) and placed third in the 50 freestyle (26.33). Jonah Freeman came in second place for the 200 freestyle (2:10.31) and took second in the 500 freestyle (6:08.74). Revis was the runner-up in the 200 individual medley (2:13.72) and also placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.76). Nate Carlson finished third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:08.97.

In relays, H-K’s 200 medley relay of Mazziotti, Revis, Clemente, and Carlson finished first (1:51.08); the 400 freestyle relay of Carlson, Garrelts, Freeman, and Mazziotti also claimed first (3:44.71); and the 200 freestyle relay of Clemente, Colby Kish, Revis, and Garrelts placed second at 1:51.32.

Then on Jan. 18, H-K dropped an 86-82 decision versus Brookfield. Zach Houlton finished first in the 200 freestyle (1:53.30) and the 500 freestyle (5:07.31), Garrelts won the 50 freestyle (23.62) and the 100 freestyle (53.35), while Mazziotti prevailed in the 200 individual medley (2:10.39) and the 100 backstroke (55.05) for the Cougars. Eli Houlton won the 100 butterfly (57.08) and took second in the 100 backstroke (59.81). Revis finished first in the 100 breaststroke wit ha time of 1:07.37.

H-K’s 200 medley relay of Mazziotti, Revis, Eli Houlton, and Garrelts finished first (1:46.67); the 200 freestyle relay of Carlson, Clemente, Zach Houlton, and Garrelts was second (1:41.24); and the 400 freestyle relay featuring Mazziotti, Eli Houlton, Zach Houlton, and Revis claimed first in a time of 3:30.99.
