The Westbrook girls basketball team played two games last week and came away with a pair of wins by defeating Norwich Tech and Hale-Ray. The victories improved Westbrook’s record to 6-3 as the season approaches its midpoint.

On Jan. 7, the Knights hosted Norwich Tech and routed the Warriors by the score of 61-12 in a non-conference game. Senior captain Savannah Marshall led the way on offense with 20 points, while freshman Jami Sacco scored a career-high 11 points for the Knights. Senior Gabby Ehlert, junior Olivia Archer, and freshman Sadie Susi all scored six points. Senior Kelly Donlan and junior Lexi Koplas each added five points in the victory.

On Jan. 10, the Knights won a 59-27 road game against Shoreline Conference opponent Hale-Ray. Westbrook spread the scoring around once again with three Knights recording double digits. Marshall netted 17 points, Ehlert scored 14, and Donlan had 13 points in the win. Sacco and Koplas scored six points apiece, while freshmen Gianni Salisbury and Alex Zanzalari both got into the scoresheet with two points.

“Our goal was to win four out of five games during this middle stretch of the season, and we accomplished that. It was very important to get these wins now as we move into a tougher part of our schedule next week,” Head Coach Kelly Landino said. “We set a team goal, and we were successful. I am happy with the wins, and now we will have to dig deep these next two weeks.”
