Rams’ Basketball Teams Win Big Against Hale-Ray

Girls’ Basketball

The Old Saybrook girls’ basketball squad defeated Hale-Ray to earn its first win of the year last week. The Rams also took a loss against Westbrook and have a record of 1-5 on the season.

On Dec. 28, the Rams were on the road to face Hale-Ray, where they scored a big 40-19 victory for their first win this season. The Noises were unable to contain Old Saybrook’s scoring attack as the Rams overwhelmed Hale-Ray in the 21-point win.

On Jan. 2, the Rams hosted Westbrook and lost a 58-43 decision. The two teams were tied in the third quarter, but Westbrook turned up the heat to come away with the victory. Mandy Beck had 18 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists for Old Saybrook. Sophomore Priscilla Gumkowski added 14 points with some impressive 3-point shooting.

Boys’ Basketball

Old Saybrook grabbed two wins in last week’s action to improve to 3-3 this winter.

On Dec. 28, Old Saybrook recorded a convincing 72-42 road win against Hale-Ray. The Rams ran away with the game and routed the Noises behind a 34-point performance from senior captain Shane Henderson, who also contributed eight rebounds and five assists. Davis Brown provided 18 points and six assists on the night.

On Jan. 2, the Rams claimed a 53-36 home win versus Westbrook. Old Saybrook trailed 29-23 at halftime, but locked in on defense during the second half to hold the Knights to just seven points. Mike Almada led all scorers with 15 points. Kam Baker recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Brown had 11 points and five assists for the Rams.

Girls’ Indoor Track

The Rams headed to the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven to compete at Shoreline Conference League Meet No. 1 on Jan. 3. Old Saybrook took first place at the meet by scoring a total of 112 points.

Boys’ Indoor Track

Old Saybrook competed at the first Shoreline Conference League Meet of the season last week. The Rams totaled a score of 88 points to finish in first place at Floyd Little Athletic Center.
