The Valley Regional boys’ basketball team played a game at Shoreline Conference foe East Hampton on Dec. 27 and came away with a 51-41 victory over the Bellringers. The result marked the Warriors’ first win on the road this winter and put their record at 3-1 on the season.
Valley was bolstered by strong games up and down the lineup against East Hampton. Junior Gavin Grabowski provided 16 points and five rebounds, while senior captain Kevin Fasulo scored 11 points in the win. Sophomore Cade Ensinger showed his versatility by stuffing the stat sheet with eight points, seven rebounds, five assists, and five steals. Junior Chris Sparaco scored eight points and hauled in seven rebounds for the Warriors. Fellow junior Ryan Shasha had five points to go with four steals in the victory. Defensively, Shasha, Grabowski, and Brian Rankin were tasked with guarding East Hampton’s top offensive threat, and held him to just 11 points on the night.
Valley got out to a hot start by outscoring the Bellringers 14-9 during the first quarter. The Warriors had a 9-7 edge in the second quarter to extend their lead to 23-16 at halftime. East Hampton tried to mount a rally by winning the third quarter 11-6, but Valley buckled down in the fourth quarter, and used a 22-14 outburst to emerge with the 51-41 victory.
Wrestling
Senior Ben Falivene traveled with Morgan wrestling team to compete at the Sachem Duals that were hosted at RHAM High School in Hebron on Dec. 22. Falivene picked up five victories on behalf of Valley Regional on the day.
In the first round, Falivene pinned Dylan Keith of Gilbert. In the second round, the senior defeated Ethan Puetzer of Bacon Academy via pin. Falivene went on to earn a pinfall win against Ernesto Heredia of Windham. Falivene also picked up forfeit victories against Jonathan Law and RHAM at the Sachem Duals.
