H-K Ice Hockey Defeats Hand, 7-2; Girls’ Hoops Loses to Stonington

Ice Hockey

The Lyman Hall/Haddam-Killingworth/Coginchaug (LH/H-K/C) ice hockey team faced off against Southern Connecticut Conference opponents Branford and Hand last week. The Trojans lost to Branford, but defeated Hand, and now have a record of 2-2 on the season.

On Dec. 22, LH/H-K/C played Branford at Northford Ice Pavilion and lost to the Hornets by the final score of 5-3. The Trojans took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Aiden Weir and Jack Roberts. Branford scored a goal to make it 2-1 after the first period and then netted the first two goals of the second to take a 3-2 advantage. With 7:52 to play in the period, the Trojans tied the game at 3-3 when Connor Chordas scored a goal on an assist by Weir. However, Branford netted a pair of goals during the third period to come away with the 5-3 victory.

Then on Dec. 26, the Trojans were back at Northford Ice Pavilion to take on Hand and notched a 7-2 win versus the Tigers. Matt Pettit recorded a hat trick by scoring three goals for the Trojans in the victory. Kyle Roberts scored two goals, while Jack Roberts and TJ Arduini each scored one goal apiece.

Girls’ Basketball

The Cougars’ girls’ basketball team moved to 0-5 on the season after taking a non-conference defeat against Stonington last week. Haddam-Killingworth faced Stonington on Dec. 20 and lost the game by the final score of 64-16.
