T-Birds’ Girls’ Hoops Splits Pair; Ice Hockey Earns Tie Versus Watertown-Pomperaug

Girls’ Basketball

The North Branford girls’ basketball team split a pair of matchups in last week’s action by defeating Coginchaug and then taking a loss against Westbrook. The Thunderbirds are now 3-2 on the year.

On Dec. 18, North Branford hosted Coginchaug and claimed a 52-46 victory against the Blue Devils. The T-Birds raced out to a 14-6 advantage in the first quarter and led the rest of the way en route to the win. Jessie Kilburn scored 17 points, and fellow senior captain Angelina Ramada had 12 points for North Branford. Freshman Braeden Lebeau also scored 12 points, while junior captain Lily Blomster and sophomore Erica Piercy posted six points apiece.

Two nights later, North Branford dropped a 48-42 decision in Westbrook.

Boys’ Basketball

The Thunderbirds moved to 0-3 this year after losing two games last week. North Branford took a 56-37 defeat at Coginchaug and then lost to Westbrook by a 64-47 final in their home opener on Dec. 20.

Against Coginchaug, junior Brett Fee scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds, while senior captain Gary Robinson scored eight points for North Branford. Junior Ronnie Longo scored six points to go with four steals, and junior Mike Sitro added five points.

In the loss to Westbrook, Fee and Sitro scored 10 points apiece. Robinson had nine points, and senior captain Matt Cosgrove added eight points.

Boys’ Ice Hockey

The Thunderbirds picked up a point by earning a 3-3 tie with Watertown-Pomperaug on Dec. 19. The T-Birds moved to 1-1-1 on the year following the draw.
