Hand Girls’ Soccer, Field Hockey Lose in State Semis

Girls’ Soccer

The Hand girls’ soccer team took a loss against Farmington in the semifinals of the Class L State Tournament last week. The Tigers finished their season with an overall record of 12-5-4.

The 13th-seeded Tigers faced No. 16 seed Farmington in the Class L semifinals at Middletown High School on Nov. 12. Hand lost a 2-1 decision when Farmington won the decisive penalty-kick session by a 7-5 margin.

Hand took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Francesca Antoni off a free kick with 28:50 to play in regulation. Farmington then scored a goal to tie it up six minutes later. The 1-1 deadlock stood through the remainder of regulation and two overtime periods, sending the game to penalty kicks. Farmington won the PK session by a 7-5 differential to advance to the state final.

Hand finishes 12-5-4 overall on the year, as it also made the SCC Tournament this fall.

Field Hockey

The Tigers dropped a decision versus Guilford in the Class M State Tournament semifinals last week. Hand posted a mark of 13-6-2 on the year.

No. 7 seed Hand took on No. 3 Guilford in the semifinals of the Class M tourney and took a 1-0 defeat on Nov. 13 at Lyman Hall High School. The game was scoreless until the Indians scored the lone goal of the contest with 7:58 remaining in regulation. Karen Newton made seven saves in goal for the Tigers.
