East Haven Girls’ Soccer Loses in States; Football Ready for Home Stretch

Girls’ Soccer

The East Haven girls’ soccer team took a 5-0 loss at Killingly in the first round of the Class L State Tournament on Nov. 5. East Haven, which was seeded 19th in the tournament, finished the year with an overall record of 7-7-3 following its loss against No. 14 seed Killingly.

During the regular season, the Yellowjackets posted a record of 7-6-3 to qualify for states for the first time in several years. Jake Hackett finished his second season as the Easties’ head coach this fall.

Football

East Haven had a bye week last week and will bring a record of 7-1 into the home stretch of the 2018 season. The Yellowjackets are in fifth place in the Class M State Playoff rankings in which the top eight teams qualify.

The Yellowjackets have two games remaining in the regular season. This week, East Haven (7-1, 2-1) visits Sheehan (7-1, 4-0) for an SCC Tier 3 matchup on Friday, Nov. 16 at 6:30 p.m. Sheehan is currently in the No. 3 spot in the Class M standings. After that game, the Yellowjackets will host Tier 3 rival Branford (5-3, 1-2) in the 77th edition of the teams’ annual Thanksgiving Day contest. The game kicks off at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22.

Girls’ Swimming and Diving

The East Haven-Wilbur Cross girls’ swimming and diving team will have some swimmers competing at the Class LL State Championship this week. The Class LL meet takes place at Southern Connecticut State University at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14.
