Field Hockey

The Westbrook field hockey team wrapped up its regular season by playing a pair of games last week and came away with victories in both contests. The Knights earned a 1-0 win over Old Saybrook and then defeated Stafford by a score of 4-0 in last week’s action. With these victories, Westbrook finished its regular season with a record of 13-1-2 to earn the No. 1 seed in this week’s Shoreline Conference Tournament.

On Oct. 22, Westbrook traveled to Old Saybrook and defeated the Rams by a 1-0 margin. Junior Lexi Koplas scored the lone goal of the contest to lift the Knights to the win.

Four days later, Head Coach Janet Dickey’s club went up against Stafford and grabbed a 4-0 home win against the Bulldogs. Avery Bauman notched a hat trick by scoring three of Westbrook’s four goals on the night. The Knights’ defense stifled the Bulldogs and didn’t allow them to take a single shot on goal in the game. Bauman scored her first goal off an assist from Olivia Hartzell and then put another in the net on an assist from Carolyn Bauman to give Westbrook a 2-0 lead at halftime. After intermission, Avery Bauman completed her hat trick by scoring a goal off a helper from Katherine Dahl. Carolyn Bauman netted the final score of the game off an assist from Alex Young.

Westbrook plays No. 4 seed Old Saybrook in the Shoreline Conference Tournament semifinals at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at the Indian River Complex in Clinton. A victory in that game would move the Knights into the final to play against the winner of No. 2 seed North Branford and 3rd-seeded Valley Regional at the Indian River Complex at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1.

Boys’ Soccer
