Cougars’ Girls’ Cross Country Takes 2nd in Shorelines; Boys’ Soccer Makes States

Girls’ Cross Country

The Haddam-Killingworth girls’ cross country team turned in a strong showing to finish as the runner-up at the Shoreline Conference Championship at Hale-Ray High School on Oct. 19. The Cougars scored 42 points to finish second behind Old Saybrook with 36 points.

Emma Anaziano finished in third place by timing in at 20 minutes and 5 seconds for Haddam-Killingworth. Also competing for the Cougars at Shorelines were Neara Bodak (6th, 20:53), Julia Callis (10th, 21:24), Lauren D’Amico (11th, 21:42), Alison Twachtman (12th, 21:49), Kylie Studzinski (27th, 23:24), and Brianna Minervino (29th, 23:31). The top 10 finishers made the All-Shoreline Conference First Team, while finishers No. 11 through 20 made the Second Team.

Boys’ Soccer

The Cougars’ boys’ soccer squad won three of its four games last week to clinch a spot in the Class M State Tournament. H-K now has a record of 8-4-2 on the year.

H-K qualified for states by posting a 3-1 win over Hale-Ray on Oct. 14. H-K then doubled up Old Lyme by a 4-2 score on Oct. 16. After that, the Cougars defeated Prince Tech-University 5-0 on Oct. 18. Two days later, H-K took a 1-0 loss against Bacon Academy.

Girls’ Soccer

H-K moved to 3-9-3 on the season after losing three games last week.

The Cougars lost to Old Lyme a 6-0 final on Oct. 15. H-K then took a 1-0 loss against Valley Regional the next day. On Oct. 17, the Cougars faced Wolcott in a non-conference game and lost a 3-1 decision.

Volleyball

The Cougars now stand at 13-4 on the season after recording three victories last week, including a pair of sweeps.

H-K swept aside Old Lyme by a 3-0 score on Oct. 15. The following day, the Cougars earned a 3-0 victory versus North Branford. Finally, on Oct. 19, H-k edged out Valley Regional by the final score of 3-2.

Field Hockey

H-K lost four contests last week and is now 0-12-2 on the season.

The Cougars took a 6-1 defeat against Old Saybrook on Oct. 16. H-K lost to Valley Regional by a 6-0 final the next day. Then on Oct. 19, H-K dropped a 3-0 decision to North Branford. The Cougars then played Valley again on Oct. 20 and took a 1-0 loss.
