Knights’ Field Hockey Posts Two Shutouts, Takes First Defeat; Both Soccer Squads Lose to Haddam-Killingworth

Field Hockey

The Westbrook field hockey team picked up two more wins and also took its first loss of the season during a slate of three games last week. The Knights earned victories versus Haddam-Killingworth and Canton with a defeat against Granby Memorial sandwiched in between. Westbrook now stands with a record of 9-1-1 on the year.

On Oct. 9, Westbrook hosted Shoreline Conference rival Haddam-Killingworth and defeated the Cougars by a score of 4-0. The very next day, the Knights went on the road to face non-conference opponent Granby Memorial and lost their first game of the year by a narrow 1-0 margin.

On Oct. 12, Westbrook hosted Canton and earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Warriors in another non-conference contest. The Knights scored the lone goal of the game in the first half and managed to hold off Canton the rest of the way behind some solid defensive play and a few saves from sophomore goalie Lauren Horne. Senior captain Katherine Dahl netted Westbrook’s first-half goal off an assist from fellow senior captain Avery Bauman to lift the Knights to the 1-0 victory. Westbrook launched 10 shots on goal, while Canton had eight shots on net in the game.

Girls’ Soccer

The Knights only had one game on last week’s schedule and dropped the contest to put their record at 1-11 this year. Westbrook hit the road to square off against Haddam-Killingworth in a Shoreline Conference matchup last week. Westbrook took a 4-0 defeat against the Cougars on Oct. 8.

Boys’ Soccer

Westbrook played just one game last week, and the Knights took a defeat to move their record to 2-9 on the season. On Oct. 9, Westbrook hosted Haddam-Killingworth for a contest between two Shoreline Conference opponents. H-K defeated the Knights by the final score of 8-0 in the game.
