North Haven 18-U Fall Ball Sweeps Doubleheader Against New Haven


The North Haven 18-U fall baseball team split a pair of games on Sept. 30 and then swept a doubleheader from New Haven on Oct. 5 to put its record at 9-3-1 for the year. North Haven earned a 10-7 victory versus Meriden, before taking 4-2 defeat against Madison in the first set of games. One week later, North Haven won both ends of a doubleheader against New Haven by earning a 13-0 win and a 13-2 victory.

North Haven and Meriden were tied 7-7 entering the top of the seventh inning, when North Haven scored three runs to take a 10-7 lead. Ryan Sullivan picked up the win by pitching three scoreless innings of relief, after which Hunter Garthwait threw a scoreless seventh to get the save. Colby Cusano singled and doubled with a run scored and three RBI, Gianni DiMartino had a pair of singles to go with three RBI, and Garthwait had a single with two doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI for North Haven. Dave Christoforo had a double with a walk, a run scored, and two RBI; Danny Cannvaciolo singled, walked, scored two runs, and drove in a run; and Mason Balmer singled and doubled to go with two runs scored.

Against Madison, John Gontarek and Nick Rossi both pitched two scoreless innings of relief to keep North Haven in the game. Jack Peruso doubled with an RBI, Balmer doubled and scored a run, and Mike Anquillare singled and scored a run.

In the first game versus New Haven, Dan Meyers threw three scoreless innings for the win, and then Owen Silk and Gontarek each worked a scoreless inning of relief. DiMartino singled and doubled with a walk, a run scored, three RBI, and a stolen base; Jay Ostrowski had a triple to go with two runs scored and two RBI, while Balmer hit a double, scored a run, drove home two, and stole a base. Cannvaciolo singled with a walk and a run, Garthwait had a single to go with a run, a walk, an RBI, and a stolen base; and Silk had a double with a RBI for North Haven in the 13-0 win.

For the 13-2 victory, Anthony Cincola earned the win by allowing two runs in four innings pitched. Silk tossed a scoreless inning to close it out. At the plate, Anthony Cretella had a single, a run, and three RBI; Cusano singled and doubled to go with two runs scored and an RBI, and Nick Rossi had a single with a double and three RBI in the victory. Cannavaciolo doubled and scored a run, Jason Landino also had a double with a run scored, and Peruso drew two walks to go with two runs scored, an RBI, and a stolen base.
