North Branford Field Hockey, Girls’ Soccer Remain Undefeated

Field Hockey

The North Branford field hockey team improved to 4-0-0-1 on the season by recording with a pair of victories in close contests last week.

On Sept. 17, North Branford edged out Valley Regional by 3-2 score in overtime. Ava Galdenzi netted the game-winner for the Thunderbirds at the 3:30 mark of the overtime frame. Galdenzi also scored North Branford’s first goal of the game. With the T-Birds trailing late in second half, Amy Raucci netted a goal to tie the game at 2-2.

Following that win, the Thunderbirds topped Sacred Heart Academy by a 2-1 final in a non-conference matchup. North Branford’s outshout the Sharks 21-9 in the win. Ali Barrett opened the scoring early by scoring a goal in the first half on an assist from Raucci. With about 10 minutes left in the game, Galdenzi scored a goal to give North Branford a 2-1 lead.

Girls’ Soccer

The Thunderbirds won one game in shutout fashion and also played to a scoreless tie last week to remain undefeated on the season. North Branford improved its record to 3-0-2 for the year.

On Sept. 20, North Branford squared off with Law, and the two sides played to a 0-0 tie. Senior captain Allie Augur was in goal for North Branford and made four saves to earn the shutout. The T-Birds put eight shots on target, but couldn’t sneak one past Law’s keeper.

Following the draw, North Branford defeated Valley Regional by a 1-0 score on the road on Sept. 22. Augur once again recorded the shutout for the Thunderbirds, who saw Lexi Rosado score the only goal of the game.

Boys’ Soccer

North Branford took losses against a pair of Shoreline Conference foes last week and is now 0-4 to begin the season.

On Sept. 17, North Branford took a 6-0 home loss versus Portland. Four days later, the Thunderbirds hosted Valley Regional and lost by a 7-0 score.

Volleyball

The T-Birds lost three contests last week to move to 1-6 this fall. North Branford took a 3-0 loss at East Hampton on Sept. 17 and then lost back-to-back home games against Valley Regional (3-1) and Fairfield Warde (3-1).

Against Valley, North Branford took a 26-24, 11-25, 23-25, 20-25 defeat. Junior Katy Pedersen had 48 service receives and 19 digs for the Thunderbirds.

The T-Birds later took a 25-14, 25-18, 25-20 loss against Fairfield Warde. Junior Sally Cucinotta had six service points and two kills, junior Sofia Cavalier had three assists with five service points, and Pedersen finished the match with 12 digs for North Branford.
