Yellowjackets’ Girls’ Soccer Earns Draw Versus North Branford; Boys’ Soccer, Volleyball Take Losses

Girls’ Soccer

The East Haven girls’ soccer team hosted North Branford for its season opener last week. The Yellowjackets played the Thunderbirds to a 1-1 tie on Sept. 8.

Freshman Emily Pycela scored East Haven’s first goal of the season on an assist from Bella Pilato. The Yellowjackets took 15 shots on goal in the game. Sophomore goalie Angelina Munoz made eight saves in net. East Haven Head Coach Jake Hackett felt that his team played well as a whole. He noted the performance of defender Ali Szewc, who anchored the back line; as well as Jenna Pane and Victoria Meeker, who played great in the midfield.

Boys’ Soccer

The Yellowjackets started their year by taking a 9-1 defeat versus Sheehan on Sept. 8. East Haven is being led by first-year interim Head Coach Chris Rapuano this season.

Volleyball

East Haven opened up the 2018 campaign with a home game against Cheshire last week. The Yellowjackets dropped a 3-0 decision to the Rams on Sept. 7.

East Haven is coming off of a season that saw the team finish the year with a record of 21-6 and advance the Class M State Tournament final, where the Yellowjackets took a 3-1 loss against top-seeded St. Joseph at East Haven High School.
