Local Rowers Hone Their Skills with the Blood Street Sculls

The rowers on the Valley Regional High School crew continued to train throughout the summer by rowing with the Blood Street Sculls club team that’s based on in Old Lyme. Under the guidance of Head Coach Paul Fuchs, Valley rowers Tessa LeMay and Emma Carey joined forces with a few other local rowers to compete at the Methuen City Sprints Regatta on July 28.

The conditions on the water were calm with a strong tail current. It was a 1,000-meter race from a staked start, and the Blood Street team turned in a strong showing by earning top-three finishes in nine of the 10 races. Carey placed second rowing a single with a finish time of 4 minutes and 10 seconds. The girls’ junior coxed four boat of Carey, LeMay, Haddam-Killingworth student Kate Ryan, Guilford’s Charlotte Wiley, and Cameron Gagnon of Old Lyme took first place with a time of 3:46. LeMay also rowed in a double with teammate Sarah Fulcher, and the duo took home a first-place finish with a time of 4:00. The girls’ junior quadruple four boat finished in second place with a time of 3:24. The rowers finished up their summer training at the Narragansett Regatta on Aug. 4.
