Cubs Create Space at the Top of Standings in Deep River Horseshoe League

The Cubs put some distance between themselves and the Red Sox for first place in the Deep River Horseshoe League standings following recent play. At the conclusion of Week 17, the Cubs hold a three and ½ game advantage over the Red Sox for the top spot in the standings. Also during Week 17, the Yankees grabbed sole possession of third place in the league.

In the A Division, Frank Jolly of the Royals led all players with a score of 165, including a season-high game of 55, in Week 17 action. The Dodgers’ Cris Christensen came in second place by pitching a score of 158, while Bill Strong of the Padres came in third place with a 137.

The Cubs’ Robert Robinson led the B Division by throwing a score of 109 in Week 17. Dennis Goodrich of the Astros came in second place with a tally of 99. In third place with a score of 98 was the Marlins’ Ed Turner.

Tony Cutone of the Cubs was tops in the C Division with his score of 89. The Yankees’ Howie Fisher threw an 82 to come in second place, and Gary Beckwith of the Giants took third with a score of 75.

In the league standings, the Cubs are in first place with a record of 64.5-37.5. The Red Sox are in second place at 61-41, and the Yankees are sitting in third place with a 60-42 record. The Dodgers are in fourth place with a mark of 57.5-44.5, and the Orioles are in fifth at 56-46.

The rest of the standings are as follows: Astros (56-46), Pirates (55.5-46.5), Marlins (54-48), Tigers (52.5-49.5), Cardinals (51-51), Mets (50.5-51.5), Rangers (50.5-51.5), Giants (48-54), Reds (47-55), Padres (44-58), Royals (43.5-58.5), White Sox (43.5-58.5), Indians (42-60), Angels (41.5-60.5), and Braves (41.5-60.5).
