The Shoreline Golf Society (SGS) recently held its Women’s and Seniors’ championships on a beautiful summer day at Shennecosset Golf Course in Groton.

The Women’s Championship was a net score event. Defending champion Christa Hammarstrom and fellow Branford resident Rose Dufour both ended up tied with a net score of 72 in the tournament. As a result, the champion was determined by a comparison of cards, with Hammarstrom getting the win.

The winner for the Seniors Championship was based on the gross score of each player. John Carbone of Plantsville shot a gross of 91, but was unable to defeat defending champion Rafael Martinez from Cromwell. Martinez shot an impressive score of 81, which was one stroke better than his winning total from last year.

Additionally, the SGS’s general membership had a net play competition. Clinton resident Ken Hartman and West Haven’s Charles Lugovich finished tied atop the leaderboard as both players scored a net 70. Lugovich was declared the winner by virtue of recording the better score on the back nine.

The SGS is always welcoming new members. For info, contact membership coordinator Bill Fitzgerald at billyfitz11@sbcglobal.net.
