Cubs and Red Sox Still Battling for First in Deep River Horseshoe League

The Cubs and the Red Sox continue to vie for first-place positioning in the standings of the Deep River Horseshoe League. Following Week 16 play, the Cubs were still holding tight to a half-game advantage over the Red Sox to remain at the top of the pack. Meanwhile, the Orioles and the Yankees are tied for third place, and Pirates have moved up into fifth place in the league standings.

Leading the A Division players in Week 16 was the Yankees’ Mike Zanelli, Sr., who pitched a score of 144. Joe Heery of the Tigers took second with a score of 138, while the Astros’ Kris Toohey came in third place by tossing a 130.

Dennis Allen of the Red Sox stood atop the B Division with a score of 109 during Week 16 action. The Astros’ Dennis Goodrich was right behind Allen in second place with a score of 108. Ed Turner of the Marlins notched a score of 106 to come in third place.

As for the C Division, Tony Cutone of the Cubs came in first place with a score of 114. The Pirates’ Sheryl Serviss threw for a score of 107 that earned her second place, and Damin Roberts of the Cardinals took third with a score of 94.

In the league standings, the Cubs are in first place with their record of 59.5-36.5, and the Red Sox are in second place at 59-37. The Orioles and the Yankees are tied for third place with an identical 55-41 records. The Pirates are in fourth place with a record of 54.5-41.5.

Here is a look at the rest of the standings: Astros (51.5-44.5), Marlins (51-45), Tigers (49.5-46.5),Cardinals (49-47), Rangers (48.5-47.5), Mets (48-48), Giants (44-52), Braves (40-50), Reds (42-54), Indians (41-55), Angels (40.5-55.5), White Sox (40-56), Padres (40-56), and Royals (39.5-56.5).
