The Clinton Huskies 18-U AAU baseball team played its final two games of its season when it faced the Shoreline Cougars for a doubleheader on July 29. The Huskies dropped both contests and finished their season with an overall record of 11-9.

In the first contest, the Huskies got out to an early lead, but eventually lost the game by the final score of 5-3. Clinton got on the board with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Ray Seward reached first with a base hit, moved to second on a fielder’s choice, and then took third base on a wild pitch. John Urban notched an RBI when he drove in Seward on a base hit to make it 1-0.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Huskies played a bit of small ball to plate another run. Mike Callahan walked to reach first base and promptly stole second to get into scoring position. Urban followed by dropping down a bunt to move him to third with one out. With Mike Menacho was at the plate, the squeeze play was on, and he executed it to perfection to score Clinton’s second run.

The Cougars scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 5-2 lead. The Huskies tried to mount a comeback in the bottom half of the inning. AJ Fritz got on with a base hit and stole second, after which Nick Caprio worked a walked. With nobody out, Russel Green dropped down a sacrifice to move both runners into scoring position. Seward grounded into a fielder’s choice to plate the Huskies’ final run of the game for the 5-3 final.

In the nightcap, the Huskies lost a 5-0 decision in their season finale.
