The Shoreline Cougars 18-U AAU baseball team played several games in East Shore Rusty Zoarski Wood Bat League action last week. The Cougars went 1-5-1 on the week and now have an overall record of 8-9-1 for the season.

Shoreline started its slate by playing a doubleheader of six-inning games against Milford on July 15. In the first game, Milford took aha 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning, but the Cougars got a run back in the bottom half of the frame. Shoreline tied it up with a run in the third, and the game finished in a 2-2 tie after six innings of play. Owen Marica came on in relief to pitch 4.2 innings of shutout ball for the Cougars. Marica and Jackson Parmentier each had a hit, while Ryan Kehlenbach picked up an RBI.

In the nightcap, the Cougars dropped a 4-3 decision against Milford. The game went back and forth as Milford took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and then Shoreline scored a pair of runs in the second to tie it. Milford went up 4-2 in the fourth and, although the Cougars got a run back in the fifth, it wasn’t enough for the win. Griffin Izzo went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Darren Hiller also had a pair of hits, and Alec Erskine notched a hit and an RBI in the loss. Erskine threw two shutout innings for Shoreline.

On July 18, the Cougars grabbed a 2-1 win against the TCB Outlaws at Central Connecticut State University. The Outlaws took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, and the game stayed that way until the top of the seventh, when the Cougars plated a pair of runs to take the lead. Erskine pitched a complete game, allowing only one run and striking out seven, to earn the win. Marica had two hits and a run scored, while Parimentier had a hit with an RBI.

The next day, the Cougars lost an 8-2 decision against the Connecticut Dodgers at Haddam-Killingworth. The Dodgers scored two runs in the first inning, but Shoreline answered back with a run in the bottom of the first to make it 2-1. Unfortunately, the Cougars couldn’t get any closer as Connecticut scored another run in the second, four more in the third, and another in the fifth. Marica went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run, plus Mike O’Toole had a pair of hits in the defeat.

On July 20, the Cougars hosted the Clinton Huskies at H-K and lost a 9-2 contest. The Huskies scored six runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth to get the win. Marica drove in the Cougars’ two runs in the game.

The next day, the Cougars were shorthanded on the mound and dropped a pair of contests against the Dodgers in a doubleheader. Shoreline lost the first game 10-0 and then took a 12-0 defeat in the second game.
