The Red Sox maintained their spot at the top of the standings following two recent weeks of play in the Deep River Horseshoe League. However, there are still several teams who are challenging the Sox for the top spot.

During Week 11 play, Dave Steuerwald of the Cubs posted the high score in the A Division with a total of 129. The Orioles’ Mike Didomizio was right behind in second place with a 127. Billy Beckwith of the Red Sox took third place in the A tier by tossing a 126.

In the B Division, Dennis Allen of the Red Sox led the way with a score of 123, while the Cardinals’ John Nilson took second place with a 112. Ed Turner of the Marlins finished third with a score of 110.

As for the C Division, the Orioles’ Rich Glass posted a score of 100 to lead the field. The Cardinals’ Damin Roberts finished next with an 88, and the Cubs’ Tony Cutone took third with a score of 87.

For Week 12 action, heavy rains threatened to put a damper on the competition, although the skies cleared up in the nick of time for the league’s players to throw some iron. Still, the pits played differently as a result, and many shoes stuck exactly where they landed.

Among the A Division players, the Dodgers’ Chris Christensen threw a league-wide, season-high score of 167, marking the highest score in the league in two years. Kris Toohey of the Astros posted the second-highest score of the season with 152. The Yankees’ Mike Zanelli, Sr., was next in line with a 148.

Jeff Fitzpatrick of the Mets led the B Division with a score of 111. Taking second place was Turner with a score of 109, while Allen tallied a score of 103 for third place.

In the C Division, the Pirates’ Sheryl Serviss took top honors with a score of 104. Cutone came in second with a 100, and Bob Beckwith of the Indians notched a third-place score of 94.

In the league standings, the Red Sox are clinging to a half-game lead for first place with a record of 45.5-16.5. The Cubs took sole possession of second place last week and are now 45-27 this year. The Pirates have moved into third place with their record of 43-29, and the Orioles are sitting in fourth at 42-30. The Astros are now in fifth place with a record of 41.5-30.5.

Here is a look at the rest of the league’s standings: Yankees (40.5-31.5), Dodgers (39-33), Cardinals (38.5-33.5), Marlins (37.5-34.5), Rangers (36.5-35.5), Mets (34-38), Braves (33.5-38.5), Indians (33-39), Tigers (32.5-39.5), Angels (30.5-41.5), Royals (30.5-41.5), Padres (30.5-41.5), Giants (30-42), Reds (29.5-42.5), and White Sox (27-45).
