The Shoreline Cougars’ baseball squad continued its season in the East Shore 18-U AAU Summer League by playing a road game against New Haven at West Rock Park on June 24. The Cougars recorded an 9-5 victory to improve their record to 2-0-1 on the season. Shoreline received a winning effort on the mound from Christopher Garrelts, who pitched five innings with seven strikeouts.

The Cougars got the scoring started in the first inning, when Alec Erskine reached base and Ryan Kehlenbach walked in front of Owen Marica, who tripled to bring both of them home. Marica later scampered home on an error to give Shoreline a 3-0 lead. New Haven came back with three runs in the third to tie the game at 3-3.

In the fourth inning, the Cougars picked up two more runs to take a 5-3 lead. Jackson Parmentier walked and Griffin Izzo singled to put two ducks on the pond for Sam Erskine. Izzo and Parmentier executed a double steal, after which Erskine drove them both in with a single.

Then in the fifth inning, the Cougars’ discerning eyes at the plate led to New Haven walking in three runs. After that, Marica singled in another run to extend the lead to 9-3.

New Haven came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to close the gap to 9-5, but the contest wouldn’t get any closer. Kehlenbach wrapped up the victory by pitching the last two innings of the game for Shoreline.
