The Shoreline Cougars baseball team started off its season in the East Shore 18-U AAU Summer League by playing a doubleheader against the New England Knights at Haddam-Killingworth High School on June 23. The Cougars earned a tie in the first game and a notched win in the nightcap to begin the year with a 1-0-1 record.

In the first matchup, the Cougars played the Knights to a 6-6 tie. New England got out to a fast start by scoring four runs in the first inning. Shoreline scored a pair of runs in the third when Owen Marica singled to score Alec Erskine and Jackson Parmentier to close the lead to 4-2. In the fourth inning, Ryan Kehlenbach singled to bring home Christopher Garrelts and make it 4-3.

In the fifth inning, the Knights picked up two more runs and widened the lead to 6-3. Then in the sixth inning, Ian Danaher, Garrelts, and Luke DiMauro all walked to load the bases for Cougars. After that, Nick Glynn hit a grounder to third and two runs scored on a throwing error. DiMauro then scored on a throw to second to tie the game at 6-6, which was how it finished due to time constraints. Carmelo Rosa threw four innings on the hill for Shoreline with Noah Snyder pitching in relief.

In the second game of doubleheader, Shoreline claimed a 7-3 victory over the Knights. The Cougars scored two runs in the first inning when Sam Erskine singled home Kehlenbach and Garrelts, but the New England tied it back up at 2-2 in the second. Marica provided a triple in the third inning to lead off the frame and then Darren Hiller bunted him home for a 3-2 lead. In the fourth inning, Shoreline piled on four more runs. Marica singled in a pair of runs after the Knights walked the bases loaded. Later on, Parmentier and Marica both scored on a passed ball that got away. Parmentier pitched four innings and allowed two runs for Shoreline. Snyder came on in relief for two innings and allowed one run. Marica finished the day with four hits and four RBI between the two games.
