Deep River Horseshoe League Heating Up as Midseason Approaches

The Deep River Horseshoe League recently contested two weeks’ worth of play, culminating with Week 9 action on the First Congregational Green.

During Week 8, the Mets’ Mark Goodale of the A Division led all players with a score of 142. Frank Jolly of the Royals followed Goodale in the A tier by throwing 134, while the Red Sox’s Billy Beckwith threw a 133 for third place.

In the B Division, Paul Felie of the Angels turned in a score of 103, and the Cubs’ Robert Roberston had a total of 100 to take second place. The Red Sox’s Dennis Allen grabbed third in the division with a score of 98.

Tony Cutone of the Cubs took first for the C Division with a score of 105, while the Royals’ Warren Bellows earned second by shooting a 100. Gary Beckwith of the Giants scored a 89 to come in third.

In Week 9 play, the A Division saw the Orioles’ Mike DiDomizio turn in a score of 143 to lead all players. Dave Steuerwald of the Cubs had a score of 135 to take second, while Jolly finished third with a total of 133.

In the B tier, the Cardinals’ John Nilson tallied a score of 104 to lead the division with Gerald Hines of the Pirates scoring a 103. The Marlins’ Ed Turner came in third place with a score of 99.

As for the C Division, high-scorer Bellows (89) and second-place finish Cutone (83) swapped places from the previous week. The Cardinals’ Damin Roberts posted a score of 81 and took third place in the division.

The Astros are still in first place in the overall standings with a record of 32.5-17.5. The Red Sox stand in second at 35.5-18.5. The Cubs continue to climb in the standings and are now in third with a mark of 33.5-20.5. The Pirates are in fourth place at 32.5-21.5, and the Rangers sit in fifth with a record of 30.5-23.5. Here is a look at the rest of the standings: Yankees (29.5-24.5), Cardinals (28.5-25.5), Marlins (28.5-25.5), Orioles (28-26), Dodgers (27.5-26.5), Reds (26-28), Tigers (25-29), Braves (24.5-29.5), Royals (23.5-30.5), Padres (23.5-30.5), Mets (23-31), Giants (22-32), Indians (21.5-32.5), White Sox (21-33), Angels (19.5-34.5).
