The Guilford Senior American Legion baseball team couldn’t have asked for a better start to the 2018 season. Post 48 has gotten out to a stellar start with a record of 7-1 and sits alone atop the Zone 3 standings.

Post 48 opened the season with a home doubleheader sweep of Middletown on June 9, winning the first contest 3-2 and then taking the nightcap by a 6-1 final. Noah Rubino and Matt McGrath pitched for Guilford in the one-run triumph, while Casey Johnson went the distance in the second game.

Guilford then edged Meriden by a 3-2 score in another home game the following day as Gray Stephens pitched a complete game. Post 48 took its first loss of the summer by losing a 3-0 final at home versus Meriden on June 12 in a game that saw Kevin Ciardiello and James Walker pitch for Guilford.

Guilford bounced back with an 8-2 road win over Wallingford the next day. McGrath and Kevin Cargos took to the mound in the victory. Post 48 then crushed Wallingford by an 11-1 final on June 14 as Rubino went the distance on the hill.

Post 48 ended the week with a doubleheader sweep over Madison on June 16, winning by 3-0 and 5-2 finals.
