The Guilford girls’ outdoor track team had quite a close to its 2018 campaign as the Indians put forth several stellar showings at the CIAC Multi-Event State Championships at Manchester High School on June 12-13, including a first-place showing by Jacqueline Guerra in the 2,000-meter Steeplechase.

Guerra placed first in the steeplechase with a time of 7 minutes and 16.97 seconds, beating out runner-up Mary Bibbey of Nonnewaug, who ran a time of 7:28.21. Guerra also set a new school record in the event with her time.

“I was hoping to pull through with something I could be proud of today. I’ve never raced the steeple, so I wasn’t really sure of what to expect, but I made it a point to just have fun,” “ said Guerra. “This was my last race, which is unreal, but I wanted to do well for myself and [Guilford girls’ indoor track Head Coach and outdoor assistant coach] Jim Ford, who has spent so much time with me the last four years and taught me so much. I’m grateful to have him as a coach and this team by my side.”

Additionally for Guilford, Sofia Migani and Julia Hyman competed in the CIAC Heptathlon. Migani placed 18th overall with a two-day scored of 3,071 points, while Hyman finished in 50th place with 1,297 points. Migani finished fifth for the long jump with a distance of 15 feet-9.75 inches. She tied for fifth for the high jump (4-10.25) and finished tied for 16th in the shot put (24-11.75). In the 200-meter dash, Migani placed 14th by running a time of 28.63 seconds. She also finished 20th for the 800 (2:49.50), 29th in the 100 hurdles (19.46), and 30th for the javelin (47-6).
