Kropiwnicki Takes 5th for Branford in CIAC Decathlon

Juniors Aidan Kropiwnicki and Brandon Perez represented the Branford boys’ outdoor track team when they competed at the CIAC Decathlon that took place at Manchester High School on June 12 and 13. Kropiwnicki scored 5,356 points and finished in fifth place out of 49 competitors at the event.

Kropiwnicki recorded five top-10 finishes among the 10 events that he participated in at the decathlon. Kropiwnicki’s best showing came in the 1,500-meter run as he took third place by running a time of 4:43.48. He placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 142 feet-6 inches. Kropiwnicki also finished fifth in the pole vault by clearing 11-11.75, placed sixth in the 400-meter run with a time of 52.74 seconds, and came in ninth place in the 100-meter dash by crossing the finish line in 11.96.

Additionally, Kropiwnicki finished 11th in the 110 hurdles (18.19), 13th in the long jump (18-8.5), 14th for the discus (85-7), 18th in the shot put (33-9.25), and 28th in the high jump (5-0.25) en route to his overall fifth-place performance.

Perez competed in five events on the first day of the decathlon, posting his top showing in the high jump by finishing fourth with a height of 5 feet-8 inches. Perez also finished 19th in the long jump (18-4.25), 44th in the shot put (27-0.5), 45th in the 100 (12.69), and 50th in the 400 (1:00.59).
