Nearly 3,000 Runners Expected for Branford Father’s Day Road Race

The 38th annual Branford Road Race will take place on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 17, at the Branford Green. Race organizers are expecting a crowd of more than 3,000 runners and walkers to take part in the five-mile race, two-mile health walk, and one-mile kids’ fun run. The race kicks off on the final day of the Branford Festival, a community celebration that attracts thousands of people. The event is one of Connecticut’s top running events and also one of the nation’s largest five-mile races.

Ray Figlewski, the co-founder of the event, was thrilled to see the progress that the race has made since its debut 38 years ago, saying that he “never could have imagined have nearly 3,000 runners and thousands of spectators in 1979 when we founded the race.” The event’s other co-founder, Dick Wainman, will be joining this year’s race for the first time in more than a decade.

Runners and walkers can enjoy live music and aid stations along all the courses. All race participants will receive a tech shirt. After the races are completed, participants may partake in post-race brunch with a choice of a pancake breakfast, a breakfast sandwich, or continental breakfast. Participants and spectators are also invited to continue the Father’s Day celebration at the Stony Creek Brewery at 5 Indian Neck Ave. in Branford. Tickets for the Stony Creek Brewery post-race celebration include beer from Stony Creek, as well pizza from Marco’s Pizzeria & Restaurant, and can be purchased online at stonycreekbeer.com.

The Branford Road Race is pleased to announce three official race charities: Connecticut Advocates for Parkinson’s, Camp Rising Sun, and Notre Dame High School. Participants who raise $200 or more for any of the three charities will receive a complimentary entry for the race of their choice. To learn more about these charities, visit branfordroadrace.net.
