Valley Regional Track, Tennis Represent at State Opens

Boys’ Outdoor Track

The Valley Regional boys’ outdoor track team was represented by a handful of athletes at the State Open Championship meet that took place at Willow Brook Park on June 4.

Junior Jason O’Brien took 13th place in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet-6.75 inches, while junior Nick Braga finished 15th in the 100-meter dash by timing in at 11.26 seconds. Also at the Open, Braga, O’Brien, sophomore Andrew Fergusen, and junior Ryan Santos teamed up to take 15th place in the 4x100 relay with a time of 44.36.

Previously, at the Class M State Championship, Braga placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.20 seconds after grabbing gold in the event at the Shoreline Conference Championship meet by finishing at 11.14 seconds. At states, O’Brien earned fifth in the long jump with a distance of 21 feet-6.25 inches. In Shorelines, he leaped 20 feet-8.5 inches for first place. The same Warriors’ 4x400 relay team took fourth place with a time of 43.96 at states.

Girls’ Tennis

The Valley Regional girls’ tennis team was represented by the doubles duo of Allie Champion and Ada Ramos at the recent State Open Tournament.

In the opening round, Champion and Ramos defeated Christine Anthony and Olivia Santora of Cheshire by default. Champion and Ramos then took an 8-6 defeat against Alexa Gallino and Nhi Nguyen of Sacred Heart in a first-round matchup.
