Huskies’ Track, Tennis Represent at State Opens

Girls’ Outdoor Track

Seniors Kate Daley and Mikayla Mancini competed on behalf of the Morgan girls’ outdoor track team at the State Open Championship at Willow Brook Park on June 4. Daley earned 14th place in the 3,200-meter run by running a time of 11:23.71, while Mancini came in 16th place in the triple jump with a distance of 33 feet-8 inches.

Previously, at the Class M State Championship, Daley finished second in the 3,200 with a time of 11:27.89, and Mancini took fifth place in the triple jump at 34 feet-5.5 inches. Before states, both seniors took first place in their respective events at the Shoreline Conference Championship meet, where Daley claimed first in the 3,200 (11:36.98) and Mancini won the triple jump (34-6).

Boys’ Tennis

Fresh off earning All-State honors by reaching the doubles final at the Class S State Championship, Patrick Markovics and Matt Newfield represented the Morgan boys’ tennis team at the State Open Tournament last week. The senior duo went up against eventual champions Taishi Hsokawa and Prem Dave of Norwalk and took a 6-0, 6-1 defeat in the quarterfinal round.

Golf

The Morgan golf team finished in a tie for 10th place with Somers at the Division IV State Championship at the Timberlin Golf Course in Kensington on June 4. The Huskies’ totaled a score of 359 at the meet.

Sophomore William Roberts finished in a tie for 15th place by turning in an 11-over-par score of 83 for Morgan. Jason Cohen scored an 85 to finish tied for 25th. Ryan Powers shot a 92 and tied for 49th place. Ethan Tessman scored a 99 and tied for 65th place, while Matt Zoner shot a 107 to finish tied for 78th place.
