H-K’s Track Teams Pick Up Some Points at the Open; Golf Hits the Course at Division III Championship

Boys’ Outdoor Track

The Haddam-Killingworth boys’ outdoor track team picked up six points at the State Open Championship and finished in a seven-way tie for 36th place at Willow Brook Park in New Britain on June 4.

The Cougars’ 4x800 relay team of Andrew Meredith, Jonah Spector, Conor McCabe, and Dan Schumann finished fourth in a time of 8 minutes and 4.59 seconds at the Open. Meredith also placed eighth in the 1,600 by timing in at 4:21.53. Meredith also qualified for the 3,200 at the Open, although he didn’t compete in the event.

Girls’ Outdoor Track

The Cougars tallied four points to finish in a six-way tie for 49th place at the recent State Open Championship.

Veronica Chrzanowski came in sixth place for the triple jump with a distance of 35 feet-6.5 inches for Haddam-Killingworth. H-K’s 4x800 relay of Emma Anziano, Julie Kelly, Lexie Bouthillier, and Kelsey D’Amico finished eighth at 9:37.09.

On June 9, Chrzanowski competed in the triple jump at the New England Championship and came in 31st place (33-4.5) at the University of New Hampshire.

Golf

The Cougars competed at the Division III State Championship on June 4 and placed 14th by totaling a team score of 385 at Tallwood Country Club in Hebron.

Leading the way for the Cougars on the par-72 course were Oliver Artus (84), Greg Lynskey (96), Andrew Kuehn (101), Michael Barile (104), and Ethan Campbell (105). Artus nabbed a birdie on the 18th hole, as did Lynskey on the ninth hole.

Girls’ Tennis

Emily Beck qualified to compete in the singles bracket at the State Open Championship on June 3-5. Beck was seeded 11th in the singles draw and lost by default to Coventry’s Julia Rutkowski in the first round.

Previously, Beck took the title in the 1-2 singles bracket of the Shoreline Conference Tournament when she earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory versus Sara Farnoli of Westbrook
