T-Birds’ Baseball, Boys’ Lacrosse Lose in States

Baseball

The North Branford baseball team saw its season come to an end in the first round of the Class S State Tournament on May 29. The 26th-seeded T-Birds visited No. 7 Immaculate and took a 3-0 defeat to finish the year at 9-14.

Jeff Jablonski pitched a complete game for North Branford, allowing three unearned runs in the first inning. Nick Mancini and Jablonski had the T-Birds’ hits on offense.

Prior to states, North Branford lost 9-0 to Cromwell in the Shoreline Conference Tournament semifinals on May 24. Mancini, Jablonski, and Carl Jacobson all had one hit.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The Thunderbirds were eliminated from the Class S State Tournament by taking loss to Granby in the first round. No. 13 seed North Branford took on No. 4 Granby and lost by a 14-6 score to end the year at 8-10.

Tyler Dinapoli had three goals and an assist for the T-Birds, who saw goalie Xavior Cognata make 17 saves.

Golf

North Branford dropped a 169-198 decision at Old Saybrook in its final match of the regular season on May 30. Next up, the T-Birds will compete in the Division IV State Championship Timberlin Golf Course on Monday, June 4.

Girls’ Outdoor Track

Mackenzie Glenn had the best individual performance for North Branford at the Class M State Championship as she placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet-0.25 inches. Glenn’s performance yielded five of North Branford’s six points at the meet as T-Birds finished in 26th place on May 29 at Willow Brook Park

The T-Birds’ 4x100 relay of Erika Roof, Grace Little, Glenn, and Bryden scored North Branford’s other point by finishing in eighth place at 51.60 seconds.

Also competing for the T-Birds were Tatyana Allgood in the 100 (32nd, 13.62), Little in the 100 (37th, 13.70) and 200 (45th, 28.90), Bryden in the 200 (16th, 27.51), Roof in the 200 (20th, 27.93), Nadia Becker in the 200 (40th, 28.42), and the 4x400 relay of Roof, Becker, Bryden, and Glenn (15th, 4:26.39).

Boys’ Outdoor Track

Michael Rabuffo was the lone T-Bird to compete at the Class S State Championship at Willow Brook Park on May 31. Rabuffo ran the 400 and finished in ninth place with a time of 52.45 seconds.
