Mancini Earns Four Medals for Morgan at Conference Meet

Girls’ Outdoor Track

Morgan took fourth place by recording 68 points in the Shoreline Conference Championship at Old Saybrook High School on May 23. The Huskies were bolstered by big-time performances from senior captains Mikayla Mancini and Kate Daley, who both earned All-Shoreline First Team honors with first-place finishes. Mancini also earned All-Shoreline Conference Second Team recognition.

Mancini collected four medals for Morgan, posting personal-best performances in both the high jump and the triple jump. Mancini claimed gold in the triple jump with a 34 feet-6 inch leap and silver in the high jump by clearing 4-10. The senior also finished third in the 4x100 relay along with Alyssa LeMay, Charlotte Davenport, and Taylor Wyatt, who ran a time of 52.56. Additionally, Mancini, Allison Gardner, Isabella Ranaudo, and Maura Kelly took fourth in the 4x400 at 4:26.15.

Daley took first in the 3,200 with a time of 11:36.98. She also ran with Isabella Ranaudo, Maura Kelly, and Allison Gardner on the Huskies’ fourth-place 4x400 with a time of 10:12.48.

Wyatt earned fourth place in the 200 (27.8) for Morgan. In the long jump, LeMay (16-0.5) and Alexandra Wolf (15-5.25) took fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Boys’ Outdoor Track

The Huskies came in seventh place at the Shoreline Conference Championship with 31 points.

Paul Rodrigues placed third in the long jump with a distance of 19 feet-5.5 inches, and he took fifth in the 300 hurdles at 44.98 seconds. The Huskies’ 4x100 relay of Juan Avila, Jhan Carlos Bermeo, Sam Hauser, and Patrick Wilson took fourth place at 46.68. Thomas Southwood placed fifth in the 400 with a time of 55.23. Brett Martin, Southwood, Chayse Lofgren, and Justin Mucha took fifth in the 4x800 with a time of 8:54.75.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The Huskies took a 12-8 loss to Valley Regional in the Shoreline Conference Tournament semifinals on May 22. Morgan received goals from Tony Caretti (3), Ford Pender (2), Ryan Caldwell (2), and Matt Lee in the loss.

Boys’ Tennis

Morgan defeated Westbrook by a 5-2 score to complete the regular season with a record of 17-1. The Huskies are competing in the Class S State Championship this week.

On the singles court, Patrick Markovics netted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 2 position against Westbrook. Vincent Tino grabbed a 6-0, 6-0 shutout win the No. 3 match, while Garrett Johnson earned a 7-5, 6-2 win at the No. 4 spot.

The Huskies took both doubles matches with Paddy Murray and Chris Nuzzo getting a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot, and Sean Arribas Cockley and Drew Marzano claiming a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 2.

Girls’ Tennis

The Huskies took two defeats to close out their season and finish the year at 3-17.

On May 21, Morgan lost a 7-0 match at Westbrook. Two days later, the Huskies lost a 5-2 road contest versus Portland.

Golf

Morgan secured wins in four recent home matches at the Clinton Country Club to improve to 10-13.

On May 21, the Huskies hosted Hale-Ray and Fitch and tallied a score of 191 to defeat the Falcons (195) and the Noises (250). The next day, Valley Regional came to town, and Morgan prevailed 188-238. On May 23, Morgan defeated Haddam-Killingworth 186-193.

Baseball

Morgan closed out the 2018 regular season on the road against East Lyme on May 21. The Huskies defeated the Vikings 7-1 to finish with a record of 7-13.

Softball

The Huskies took a pair of recent defeats to move to 5-14 with one game left in the season. On May 21, Morgan lost a 2-0 contest at Lewis Mills. Two days later, the Huskies took a 14-4 defeat at Woodland.
