The Old Saybrook baseball team claimed victory in three of its four games last week to qualify for the Class S State Tournament with a record of 9-3 on the season. The Rams defeated Cromwell, North Branford, and Portland to go with a loss against Hale-Ray in last week’s action.

On April 29, Old Saybrook used a dramatic late-inning rally to earn a 4-3, walk-off win against Cromwell. The Rams trailed 3-0, before tying the game with three runs in the sixth inning. Sebby Gallitto was hit by a pitch that forced in Jack Coella for Old Saybrook’s first run. Cooper Pavlovich singled home Dane Cote, and then Robert Holt picked up an RBI on a fielder’s choice to tie the game. In bottom of the seventh, Gallitto hit an RBI single to right field to win it. Coella and Kelley both had two hits and a run scored, while Gallitto had a hit and two RBI. Coella earned the win on the mound by pitching the seventh inning. Ryan DuBord pitched six innings and struck out six.

The next day, the Rams beat North Branford 14-8 on the road to make states. After allowing eight runs in the second inning, the Rams scored the final 14 runs of the game on their way to the win. Hayden Lockhart went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Kelley was 2-for-4 with three runs and four RBI. Gallitto (3 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBI) and Pavlovich (3 hits, 2 runs, RBI) both had strong showings, as well.

On May 2, the Rams took a 15-1 loss at Hale-Ray. Coella had two hits and an RBI for the Rams.

Two days later, Old Saybrook beat Portland at home, 5-2. Lockhart went 2-for-3 with two runs, and Coella was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Pavlovich had a hit and an RBI, while Jordan Butler went 2-for-3 with a run scored. DuBord went the distance for the win and picked up six K’s on the day.

The Rams’ softball squad recorded three wins last week to move to 8-7 and get in the Class S State Tournament.

On April 30, Old Saybrook notched a 24-9 win in Portland. The Rams totaled 23 hits, led by a gigantic game from Chloe Root, who went 6-for-6 with three home runs and six RBI. Carly Michaud went 4-for-4 with a double and also got the win on the mound. Emiley Wilson had three hits and three RBI, and Sarah Lombardi went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and a double.

On May 2, the Rams took an 11-7 home loss to Old Lyme. Maeve Foley went 3-for-4 with a triple, while Root had a double and a single.

The next day, Old Saybrook defeated East Hampton 11-3 on the road. The following day, the Rams posted a 14-2 home win over East Hampton to qualify for states. Wilson went 2-for-4 with a homer, Foley had a home run and a double, Michaud went 3-for-4 with two doubles, and Christina Lombardi went 2-for-3 with a double.

Old Saybrook recorded wins against Morgan, St. Bernard, and Waterford last week to improve to 8-3, while also qualifying for states.

Old Saybrook defeated Morgan at home, 20-8, on May 1. Two days later, the Rams secured a spot in the Class S State Tournament with their 12-3 home victory over St. Bernard. On May 4, the Rams earned a 17-12 win at Waterford.

On May 1, Old Saybrook lost 4-1 at Morgan. Max Chupak scored the lone goal for the Rams, who saw Keaton Roarick make 32 saves.

Two days later, the Rams grabbed a 4-3 win at Cromwell. The game was tied 3-3, when the Rams netted the go-ahead goal in the fourth quarter. Alem Tiden scored two goals, Chupak had a goal, and Matt Barnes had a goal and an assist. Roarick made 22 saves, including one in the final seconds to secure the victory.

Old Saybrook won all four of its matches last week to improve to 9-4 and move one win away from reaching the Class S State Tournament.

On April 30, the Rams notched a 7-0 home win versus Morgan. Tanya Gianitsos earned a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 1 singles match, while Sam Fucci grabbed a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 spot. Emma Rogan won 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 3 position, and Ana Hester took a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 4 match. In doubles, the No. 1 duo of Amy Young and Arina Jiang recorded a 6-4, 7-5 win; Kate Conklin and Audra Giugno won a 6-1, 6-2 decision in the No. 2 doubles match; and the pairing of Alice Gadon and Claudia Winiarskyj prevailed 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot.

The next day, Old Saybrook hosted Portland and notched a 6-1 victory. Gianitsos (6-2, 7-5), Fucci (6-0, 6-0), and Hester (6-1, 6-2) each won their respective singles matches. In doubles, Jiang and Young grabbed a 6-3, 6-0 win; Conklin and Giugno earned a 6-0, 6-2 win; and Gadon and Winiarskyj posted a 6-0, 6-0 sweep.

The following afternoon, Old Saybrook claimed a 5-2 home victory versus Coginchaug. Gianitsos battled for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win; Fucci snagged a 7-5, 6-2 victory; and Hester earned a 6-3, 6-3 win. In doubles, Old Saybrook received victories from Jiang and Young (6-1, 6-3), plus Gadon and Winiarskyj (7-5, 5-7, 10-5).

On May 4, the Rams defeated Westbrook at home, 5-2. Sara Farnoli notched a 6-4, 6-3 victory in the No. 1 singles match. Fucci earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot, and Hester secured a 6-0, 6-0 shutout in the No. 4 match. The doubles teams of Jiang and Young (6-1, 6-3), Conklin and Giugno (4-6, 6-4, 6-4), and Gadon and Winiarskyj (6-1, 4-6, 6-0) were victorious.

On April 30, Old Saybrook took a 5-2 loss at Morgan. Two days later, the Rams defeated Coginchaug 5-2. On May 4, Old Saybrook netted a 6-1 victory against Westbrook.

The Rams won two matches last week and are 6-1 on the season. On April 30, Old Saybrook snagged a 180-217 victory against East Hampton. Two days later, the Rams defeated Hale-Ray 169-215.
