East Haven Softball Notches a 5-4 Win Versus Lauralton; Boys’ Tennis, Golf Get Multiple Victories

Softball

The Yellowjackets’ softball squad defeated Lauralton Hall and then lost to Amity last week. East Haven is now 6-4 and needs two more wins to reach the postseason.

On April 23, the Easties topped Lauralton Hall 5-4. Taylor Myers earned the win as she allowed four runs (3 earned) on five hits, while striking out four. Tori Heaphy gave one hit and struck out two over two innings to get the save. At the dish, Selena Mauro had three hits to go with a pair or RBI, Jessica Stettinger and Rebecca Flynn each had two hits, Megan Roberts drove home two runs, and Brianna Carrano scored a pair of runs.

To close out last week, the Yellowjackets lost 7-6 against Amity on April 28.

Boys’ Tennis

East Haven was victorious in two of its three matches last week to raise its record to 4-5 this year.

On April 24, East Haven defeated Platt Tech 6-1 in a home match. Rob Scalese won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles; Anthony Pettolla won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2; and Nick Kluth claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 3 singles match. East Haven swept doubles play as the top team of Seth Proto and Doug Comesanas won 6-0, 6-0; the No. 2 team of Dan Murtagh and Marchello Delucia won 6-3, 6-2; and the No. 3 pairing of Joe Brown and Luke DelGuidice prevailed 6-0, 6-0.

East Haven then took a 7-0 loss to Cheshire on April 26, but bounced back with a 6-1 victory versus Sheehan two days later.

Girls’ Tennis

The Yellowjackets lost all three of their matches last week and are now 2-8 for the year.

On April 23, East Haven took a 6-1 loss against Cheshire. Jenna Pane won a 7-6, 6-3 decision at No. 1 singles for the Yellowjackets.

Three days later, East Haven dropped a 6-1 contest to Sacred Heart Academy in which Pane earned a 6-2, 6-1 win.

On April 28, the Yellowjackets lost to Lyman Hall by a 5-2 final. Pane won 6-1, 6-1, while Jade Roberts claimed a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.

Boys’ Outdoor Track

East Haven took on Guilford and Hillhouse last week and split the match by beating Hillhouse (82-67) and losing to Guilford (84.5-65.5).

Jay Donaldson took first place in the 100 with a time of 10.7 seconds, while Jordan Ingram finished first the 200 in 22.5 seconds. Tom Meyerholz won in the 300 hurdles at 45.4 seconds, and Evan Damien was victorious in the triple jump with a distance of 38 feet-9.5 inches. In the throwing events, Josh Rao won the javelin at 121 feet-10 inches, and Calvin Nelson took first in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet-10 inches. The 4x100 relay team of Donaldson, Ingram, Meyerholz, and Joseph Castellano was victorious in 44.6 seconds.

Golf

East Haven had three matches last week and went 3-2 between the three to improve to 4-3 this season.

On April 23, the Yellowjackets took on Wilcox Tech, Hillhouse, and Career at Alling Memorial Golf Club. East Haven shot a 225 on the day to defeat Hillhouse (226) and Career (256), while losing Wilcox Tech, which totaled a score of 183.

The next day, the Yellowjackets faced North Haven at Wallingford Country Club and took a 197-240 defeat.

Then on April 25, East Haven defeated Career 225-265 at Alling.
