Printer Friendly Version - Rams’ Baseball Sweeps Week with Three Wins; Golf Takes Season Opener

The Old Saybrook baseball team was victorious in all three of its games last week to raise its record to 3-1 on the young season.

On April 9, the Rams were at Valley Regional and claimed an 8-5 victory. Dan Cote notched two hits, two RBI, and a run, while also earning the win on the mound with four innings pitched. Ryan DuBord came on in relief and pitched three innings. Jaden Rolon had two hits, three RBI, and a run scored; DuBord supplied two hits, two RBI, and a run; while Jordan Butler had two hits and two runs scored.

On April 13, the Rams grabbed a 14-3 win at Westbrook. Hayden Lockhart had a huge day as he put up five hits, five RBI, two stolen bases, and two runs. Sebastian Gallitto had four hits, scored three runs, and drove in another, while Jack Coella had two hits and two RBI with a run scored. Jaden Rolon went the distance on the mound by pitching six innings and fanning 13, while only allowing three hits.

The Rams stand at 3-4 this year after picking up one victory in four games last week.

On April 8, were at Valley Regional and lost 11-5. Two days later, Old Saybrook was back home for Cromwell and lost 14-7. Chloe Root hit a two-run homer, while Sarah Lombardi and Emiley Wilson had two singles apiece for the Rams.

On April 12, the Rams took a 15-4 defeat at Haddam-Killingworth. Then on April 14, Old Saybrook grabbed a 5-2 win at home against Morgan. Carly Michaud was the Rams’ winning pitcher by striking out nine and pitching a complete game. Wilson went 2-for-3 with a double, a single, and two RBI, plus Root had two singles.

Old Saybrook picked up its first win of the year on the road against North Branford last week, prevailing 174-211 the Indian Springs Golf Course. Kyle Savino earned medalist honors as the low scorer on the day with a 40. Jay DePalermo notched a 43, Jack Walsh had a score of 44, and Ben O’Dell turned in a score of 47.

The Rams played their first four matches of the season last week, and Head Coach Ruthanne Rothman’s squad came away with two wins and two defeats. Senior Sam Fucci went 4-0 at the No. 2 singles position, while junior Ana Hester was undefeated in three matches at No. 4 singles spot on the week.

On April 9, Old Saybrook was at Westbrook and lost 5-2. In singles play, Fucci (6-1, 6-0) and Hester (6-4, 6-0) claimed victories. Tanya Gianitos and Victoria Koplas competed at the No. 1 and 3 singles positions, respectively, for the Rams, who also saw their doubles teams of Arina Jiang and Amy Young, Katie Conklin and Audra Giugno, and Alice Gadon and Claudia Winiarskyj take the court.

On April 12, the Rams headed to Coginchaug and picked up a 4-3 win. The Rams swept singles play with Gianitsos (6-1, 6-2), Fucci (6-3, 6-0), No. 3 player Shannon Carey (6-0, 6-1), and Hester (4-6, 6-4, 6-1) all winning. The doubles pairings for the Rams were Jiang and Shea Alsback, Conklin and Giugno, and Hann Racki and Julia Harris.

The next day, Old Saybrook matched up with East Hampton/Hale-Ray and earned a 7-0 sweep. For singles, Gianitsos (7-6, 6-3), Fucci (6-1, 6-1), Emma Rogan (6-1, 6-0), and Hester (6-0, 6-0) prevailed for Old Saybrook. For doubles, Jiang and Alsback (6-1, 6-0), Conklin and Giugno (6-0, 6-0), and Gadon and Winiarskyj (6-0, 6-0) all grabbed wins.

Finally, on April 14, Old Saybrook lost 4-3 at Valley Regional. Gianitsos (6-2, 6-4) and Fucci (3-6, 6-3, 6-4) earned wins in singles, while Emma Rogan and Alsback also competed for the Rams. As for doubles, Alice Gadon and Kristina McNeish won 7-6, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot, Jiang and Young competed at the No. 1 position, and Conklin and Giugno played at the No. 2 spot.

The Rams won all three of their matches last week and are 4-0 on the year. On April 9, the Rams defeated Westbrook 6-1. Then on April 12, Old Saybrook took a 6-1 victory against Coginchaug. The next day, the Rams beat East Hampton 4-3.

The Rams grabbed a win in one of their three contests last week and are now 2-5.

On April 10, Old Saybrook hosted Cromwell and won a 7-6 decision. The Rams had a 3-2 lead coming out of the first quarter, but Cromwell scored two goals in the second period to take the 4-3 halftime lead. In the third quarter, Old Saybrook took a 5-4 lead and went on to get the win. Alem Tiden had four goals and an assist, Matt Chupak had two goals, and James Carlin notched one in the victory. Matt Murphy had two helpers, and Matt Barnes added one. Keaton Roarick made seven saves coming off his state-record, 33-save performance against Morgan the previous week.

Two days later, Old Saybrook was at home against Old Lyme and lost 7-3. Chupak had two goals, while Ed Fernandes put one in the back of the net. Roarick had 21 saves.

Old Saybrook had two home games last week and split the pair to move to 2-1. On April 9, the Rams defeated Stonington 10-7. Two days later, Old Saybrook lost 15-4 to North Branford.
