T-Birds Begin Spring Season with Success

Boys’ Lacrosse

The North Branford boys’ lacrosse team is 2-1 to start the year after claiming victory in two of its first three games last week. The Thunderbirds defeated Old Saybrook (12-4) and Valley Regional (12-10), before taking a 13-7 loss against Foran to close the week.

The T-Birds took on Old Saybrook and came away with a convincing 12-4 victory on April 3. North Branford scored in every quarter, taking a 5-2 lead into the half and ending the game with six goals in the final period. Dylan Martinik scored five goals, Tyler Dinapoli and Peter Ablondi-Taylor each scored three, and Sean McKee also scored a goal in the win. Martinik added two assists as North Branford outshot the Rams 30-15.

Two days later, North Branford hosted Valley Regional and netted a 12-10 victory against the defending Shoreline Conference champion Warriors.

Then on April 7, the T-Birds dropped a 13-7 decision at Foran in a non-conference contest. North Branford finished the year with six victories last spring.

Girls’ Lacrosse

The T-Birds went on the road to face off against Shoreline Conference foe Valley Regional in their first game of the year. North Branford doubled up the Warriors by the final score of 20-10 in Deep River on April 5. North Branford went 15-5 and advanced to the Shoreline Conference Tournament final in 2017.

Baseball

North Branford kicked off the spring by hosting Morgan for a Shoreline Conference contest last week. The Thunderbirds claimed an 8-7 victory versus the Huskies on April 5 to start the year on a positive note.

North Branford is coming off a season that saw the team finish with a record of 4-16.

Girls’ Tennis

North Branford kicked off the 2018 by claiming victory in its first two matches of the year. The Thunderbirds netted a 4-3 home win over Haddam-Killingworth in their season opener on April 5 and then posted a 5-2 victory at Cromwell on April 7.

Against H-K, Emily Beck prevailed 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles; Sofia Cavalier earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles; and Zelda Galdenzi won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for North Branford. The T-Birds' No. 2 doubles team of Ava Galdenzi and Catie Dow recorded a 6-2, 6-4 victory to help solidify the victory. North Branford finished with a record of 6-14 last season.

Boys’ Tennis

North Branford hosted Haddam-Killingworth for its first match of the season and took a 6-1 defeat on April 5. Chris Candelora earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory in singles play for the T-Birds.
