Boys’ Ice Hockey

The Guilford boys' ice hockey team took a 7-3 loss to Farmington Valley in the Division II State Tournament final at Ingalls Rink in New Haven on March 16. The 3rd-seeded Indians, who were looking to win their second straight state title, finished with a record of 22-4 for the season. Top-seeded Farmington Valley finished at 21-2-1 on the year.

The Indians had advanced to the final by edging out No. 2 seed Watertown-Pomperaug by a 2-1 score in the Division II semis at Ingalls Rink.

Earlier in the tournament, the Indians scratched out a 2-1 overtime win against No. 14 E.O. Smith-Tolland in the first round of states at DiLungo Rink on March 6. Jack Ring netted the game-winning goal OT for Guilford, which had taken a 1-0 lead on Jack Dacey’s goal in the first period. The Bucks later tied the game at 1-1 by scoring a goal just 31 seconds into the third.

Then on March 9, Guilford faced off against No. 6 seed Glastonbury at the Northford Ice Pavilion and prevailed 6-3 behind a monster performance from John DeLucia, who scored five goals. Ring scored the other goal for Guilford in the victory.

Boys’ Basketball

The Guilford boys’ basketball team began Division III State Tournament play as the top seed last week and defeated E.O. Smith in its opener, before a taking quarterfinal loss against Avon. The Indians finished their season with an overall record of 21-3.

Guilford hosted No. 16 seed E.O. Smith in the second round of states on March 9 and prevailed by a 64-48 final.
