Meredith and Spector Go 1-2 in the 3,200 as H-K Boys Place 5th at States

Boys’ Indoor Track

Andrew Meredith took the title in the 3,200 by running a time of 9:44.27 for the Haddam-Killingworth boys’ indoor track team at the Class S State Championship. The Cougars placed fifth with 28 points at the Class S meet, which was held at Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven on Feb. 10.

Meredith’s teammate Jonah Spector finished second in the 3,200 by timing in at 9:50.87 at states. H-K’s 4x800 relay squad of Dan Schumann, Spector, Meredith, and Conor McCabe finished second (8:19.50) to Old Saybrook (8:18.85), while Tyler Knapp came in fifth place for the pole vault (11-6) to account for the Cougars’ points.

Girls’ Indoor Track

The Cougars participated at last week’s Class S State Championship and came in tied for 10th place scoring 14 points.

The 4x800 relay of Lexie Bouthillier, Kelsey D’Amico, Emma Anziano, and Julie Kelly finished in third (10:00.66) to score some points for H-K. Veronica Chrzanowski finished third for the long jump (17-0.75), while the Cougars’ 1,600 sprint medley relay of Chrzanowski, Elena Boyington, Ashley Duncanson, and Kelly came in fifth place (4:38.00) to round out H-K’s point scorers on the day.

Boys’ Ice Hockey

The Lyman Hall/Haddam-Killingworth/Coginchaug boys’ ice hockey squad now stands at 12-5 after going 2-2 in its last four contests.

The Trojans nabbed their eighth straight victory by a recording a 6-2 win over North Branford on Feb. 3. After that, the team scratched out a 6-5 overtime win versus Amity on Feb. 6 to make it nine straight wins. The Trojans saw their streak come to an end with a 6-4 loss to the Eastern Connecticut Eagles on Feb. 9. The following evening, they took a 6-3 defeat against Branford.

Girls’ Basketball

H-K moved to 7-11 after splitting a pair of recent contests and can qualify for the postseason by winning one of its last two regular-season games.

The Cougars defeated Valley Regional by a 60-41 final on Feb. 5. H-K then took a 58-41 loss against Coginchaug on Feb. 8.

Boys’ Basketball

The Cougars dropping a pair of contests last week and are now 1-16 on the season.

H-K took a 73-40 loss to Valley Regional on Feb. 6. Then on Feb. 8, the Cougars lost to Coginchaug by the final score of 65-58.
