Rams’ Boys Basketball Picks Up Two Victories; Girls Win One

Boys’ Basketball

The Old Saybrook boys’ basketball team won two of its last three games to improve to 11-4 on the season. The Rams lost to North Branford, but then came back to defeat Hale-Ray and Coginchaug.

On Jan. 30, the Rams took a 66-38 loss at North Branford. Shane Henderson led Old Saybrook in scoring with 14 points, while Anthony Karg added seven points on the night. Victor Pascoe and Dan Cote had four points each, and Keaton Roarick scored four points to go with three rebounds.

On Feb. 2, Old Saybrook was on the road against Hale-Ray and won 61-51. The next day, the Rams were in Durham to square off against Coginchaug and earned a 47-43 victory. Henderson led all scorers with 20 points on the evening for Old Saybrook. Karg scored 12 points, and Pascoe was close behind with 11 points.

Girls’ Basketball

The Rams had two games last week and won one of them to move to 7-10 on the season.

On Jan. 29, Old Saybrook was at home against North Branford and lost a close contest, 41-39. Mandy Beck had 12 points with four steals, Alyssa Parker also scored 12 points, Chloe Root had 10 points, and Sophie Alden had four steals for Old Saybrook.

On Feb. 1, the Rams hosted Hale-Ray and won by the score of 48-34. Beck had a big game by scoring 26 points for the Rams, who also received 10 points from Parker.

Boys’ Ice Hockey

The East Haven-Old Lyme-Old Saybrook-East Hampton boys’ ice hockey team lost two games last week, dropping a 3-0 decision to Hall-Southington on Jan. 31 and losing to Amity by a 2-1 final in overtime on Feb. 3. The Yellowjackets are now 6-5-1 on the year.

Matt Twarowski made 28 saves for the Easties in the game against Hall-Southington.

In the Amity game, Joe Consiglio scored on an assist from Zach Paquin to tie it in the second period, before Spartans won it in overtime. Twarowski had 24 saves in the contest.
