H-K Boys’ Ice Hockey Makes States; Girls’ Hoops Takes Two, While Boys Get First Win

Boys’ Ice Hockey

The Lyman Hall-Haddam-Killingworth-Coginchaug boys’ ice hockey team won both of its games last week to qualify for the Division III State Tournament with a record of 9-3.

The Trojans made states by defeating Staples 4-1 in a non-conference game at Milford Ice Pavilion on Jan. 24. Three days later, the squad hosted Masuk for a SCC Division III contest at Northford Ice Pavilion and prevailed by the final score of 5-2.

Girls’ Basketball

The Haddam-Killingworth girls’ basketball team is now 4-10 on the campaign after picking up a pair of victories last week.

The Cougars took a 63-34 defeat to North Branford on Jan. 24. However, H-K then defeated Hale-Ray 62-40 on Jan. 25 to net its third win of the year. Then on Jan. 27, H-K edged out Creed 33-31 to put its fourth win of the season in the books.

Boys’ Basketball

The Cougars picked up their first victory of the season last week by winning a nail-biter against Hale-Ray.

H-K took a 63-34 loss to North Branford on Jan. 24. The Cougars then put their first win in the books by edging Hale-Ray 52-51 on Jan. 27 to improve to 1-12 for the year.

Gymnastics

The H-K/Hale-Ray/Morgan gymnastics team had a meet against Hand, Mercy, and Valley Regional at the Polson Gym at Daniel Hand High School on Jan. 25. The Cougars scored 122.2 points to defeat Valley Regional (90.85), while taking losses against Hand (132.75 and Mercy (132.2).

The team’s performers at the meet were Ally Viens, who scored 8.25 on vault, a 7.0 on bars, and a 7.5 on beam and floor for a 30.25 all-around score; along with Emma Anderson (8.4 on vault, 6.5 on bars, 6.6 on beam, 8.1 on floor, 29.6 all-around); Brianna Livingston (8.05 on vault, 7.8 on bars, 7.3 on beam, 6.8 on floor, 29.95 all-around); and Haley Smith (8.7 on vault, 8.2 on bars, 7.2 on beam, 8.3 on floor, 32.4 all-around).
