Guilford Boys’ Hoops Ups Mark to 10-0; Both Ice Hockey Teams Pick Up Wins

Boys’ Basketball

The Guilford boys’ basketball team netted two more divisional wins last week to finish the first half of the regular season undefeated with an overall record of 10-0, along with a mark of 4-0 in SCC Hammonasset Division.

Guilford defeated Xavier by the score of 58-51 on Jan. 16. Noah Rubino had 19 points for the Indians, while Matt Donlan scored 15 points in the victory.

Then on Jan. 19, the Indians defeated Cheshire by the final tally of 56-46 to put their 10th win in the books.

Boys’ Ice Hockey

The Indians split a pair of recent contests to move to 7-2 on the season.

Guilford dropped a 7-4 decision to Hamden on Jan. 15. The Indians then rebounded with a 6-2 victory over East Haven-Old Lyme-Old Saybrook-East Hampton on Jan. 20.

Girls’ Ice Hockey

The Indians are now 4-7 after winning their lone game last week. Guilford blanked Masuk-Barlow-Newtown-Oxford-Bethel by a 3-0 final on Jan. 19 to notch its fourth win of the season.

Wrestling

The Indians battled Xavier last week and took a close defeat to move to 11-4 this year.

Guilford took a 38-36 loss to Xavier on Jan. 17. The Indians’ wins came from Keldon LaRose in the 126-pound weight class at the 3:09 mark, as well as Vinnie Mascola (138, by 6-2 decision), Joey Santino (145, by 5-3 decision), Carter Cox (152, pin at 0:36), Christion Swan (160, pin at 2:50), AJ Moscato (195, pin at 3:23), and Mark Chapman (220, pin at 2:31).

Gymnastics

Olivia Ciocca is a Guilford High School student who trains with the team at Daniel Hand High School in Madison and then competes on behalf of the Indians as a team-of-one at Hand’s meets. Last week, Ciocca competed when Hand had a meet against Foran that it won on Jan. 18. Ciocca finished tied for third on the floor exercise with a score of 7.9 at the meet.
