H-K Ice Hockey Edges Sheehan in OT; Gymnastics, Boys’ Swimming Get a Win

Boys’ Ice Hockey

The Lyman Hall/Haddam-Killingworth/Coginchaug (L/H-K/C) boys’ ice hockey team is now 6-3 following a week in which one of its players recorded a career milestone.

The Trojans first earned a 4-3 win over Housatonic-Northwestern-Wamogo on Jan. 10. In the win, Lyman Hall student Scott Bradley notched his 100th career point as member of the program. L/H-K/C finished the week with a big 3-2 overtime win against rival Sheehan on Jan. 13.

Gymnastics

H-K/Hale-Ray/Morgan earned a victory over Valley Regional last week. The Cougars scored 122.75 points to defeat the Warriors (106.3) on Jan. 11.

In the vault event, Ally Veins scored an 8.3, Emma Anderson had an 8.4, Brianna Livingston scored an 8.2, and Haley Smith scored an 8.7. On bars, Veins had an 7.6, Anderson and Livingston each scored a 6.2, and Smith had an 8.1. For the beam, Veins tallied a 7.9, Anderson had a 7.25, Livingston scored a 7.4, and Smith posted a 7.6. For floor, Veins notched a 7.25, Anderson had a score of 7.8, Livingston scored a 7.4, and Smith scored an 8.45.

Girls’ Basketball

H-K moved to 2-7 after dropping recent contests against Old Lyme and Valley Regional.

On Jan. 9, the Cougars lost a 45-43 decision versus Old Lyme on Jan. 9. H-K then took a 46-41 defeat to Valley Regional on Jan. 12.

Boys’ Basketball

The Cougars are now 0-9 after taking four defeats last week.

H-K took a 51-32 defeat to Old Lyme on Jan. 8. The Cougars then lost to Manchester, 76-34, on Jan. 10, before taking a 64-54 loss to Valley Regional on Jan. 11. H-K then lost by a 77-30 final against Creed on Jan. 13.

Boys’ Swimming and Diving

The Haddam-Killingworth boys’ swimming and diving team took a 97-81 loss to East Lyme on Jan. 12.

The Cougars’ 200 medley relay of Jake Torello, Max Revis, Eli Houlton, and Kyle Mazziotti won in a time of 1:49.35 at the meet. Additionally for H-K, Mazziotti was the winner of the 100 backstroke (59.70) with Torello in second (1:01.89); Mazziotti also won the 100 freestyle (51.55), Chris Garrelts won the 50 freestyle (24.30), Revis was first in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.89), Eli Houlton took first in the 100 butterfly (57.53); and the 400 free relay of Eli Houlton, Michael Morman, Revis, and Mazziotti finished first (3:41.16). Also, Morman was second in the 200 free (2:00.91), Revis finished as runner-up for the 200 individual medley (2:17.88), Eli Houlton was second for the 500 free (5:33.62); and the 200 freestyle relay of Torello, Morman, Niko Yepes, and Garrelts finished in second (1:42.47).

Previously, the Cougars grabbed their second win of the year on Jan. 3 with an 83-75 final over Granby Memorial. Zach Houlton won the 200 free (1:57.13) and the 500 free (5:16.37) with Morman in second (5:42.88) for the latter event. Zach Houlton also won the 500 free (5:16.37) and Morman was second (5:42.88). Morman won the 50 free (25.25), plus Chris Garrelts was a close second (25.20). The 100 free top spot went to Mazziotti (51.97) with Garrelts in second (56.76). Revis won the 100 breaststroke (1:06.69) with Mazziotti placing second (1:08.09). The 200 freestyle relay of the Houltons, Garrelts, and Mazziotti finished first with a time of 1:38.61. Additionally, the 200 medley relay of Simon Brown, Nate Carlson, Niko Yepes, and Eitenne Huebner finished second (2:25.44), Eli Houlton was runner-up for the 200 IM (2:15.94) and the 100 butterfly (57.84), Torello was runner-up for the 100 backstroke (1:02.33); plus the 400 free relay of Revis, Morman, the Houltons posted a time of 3:43.73.
