Flip-Flop Gymnastics Collects the Medals in Rhode Island


The Flip-Flop Gymnastics Xcel Gold team took second place at a meet in Rhode Island last month. Flip-Flop Gymnastics was represented by many local athletes when its teams competed against teams from around the East Coast in a meet at the Convention Center in Providence, Rhode Island on Dec. 1.

Flip Flop’s Xcel Platinum team had a triumphant meet, including Emma Anderson of Higganum, who finished third on all-around with a score of 35.15. Anderson earned first on vault with a 9.325 and second on floor with an 8.925. Also scoring high were Emma Pfau of Guilford and Emily Brucker of Deep River, who both received the exact all-around score of 34.325. Pfau placed seventh on vault with an 8.8 and was also seventh on bars with an 8.55. Brucker took home the bronze on vault with an 9.325 and finished in sixth place overall. Katie Schuman placed fourth on vault with a 9.075 and achieved an all-around score of 32.375.

The Xcel Gold team also competed at the meet, and its strong team of 12 athletes finished in second place. Grace Jacaruso of Essex took home silver in the all-around with a score of 34.85. Fellow Essex resident Madeline Jacaruso placed first on vault with an 8.775 and second on bars with an impressive 9.225. Eileen Russell of Chester came in first on floor with an outstanding 9.6 and totaled an all-around score of 34.625. Lauren Matarazzo of Deep River had her best performance on vault, scoring an 8.65, and totaled an all-around score of 34.175. Grace Arnold of Old Lyme took fourth place on all-around with a 33.950 and placed third on beam with an 8.55, plus third on vault with an 8.25. Kelsey Luccaro of Deep River placed first on vault with a score of 8.775 and earned a 33.525 on all-around. Chase Conrad of Essex also competed and placed second on beam with an 8.9 and fifth on floor with an 8.6, totaling an all-around score of 33.075. Violet Lavezzoli of Deep River placed fourth on floor with an 8.8 and finished with an all-around score of 32.875. Madison Neviaser of Essex scored an 8.7 on beam and finished with an overall total of 32.2. Mia Alio of Deep River scored an 8.9 on floor with an all-around score of 31.375. Katrina Tozier of East Haddam placed fifth on bars with an 8.45 and finished with a 31.125 all-around. Reagan Furgueson of Deep River placed fifth on vault with an 8.225, and Isabella Guilliano of Deep River scored an 8.425 on beam for second place, plus she was also third all-around with a 30.85.

Flip-Flop’s Xcel Silver team performed spectacularly and worked hard to earn second place overall. Leading the girls to second place was Jacaruso with an outstanding all-around score of 36.675. Jacaruso was able to acquire 9s all four of her events, placing first on vault with a 9.125, and she was also first on bars with a 9.25. Kaia Karcich of Deep River placed third all-around with a 35.95 and secured second place on floor with an 9.175 on floor, as well as fourth on beam with a 9.275. Hailey Young of Ivoryton placed fourth overall with a total of 35.9. She also third place on bars with a 9.1 and finished fifth on floor with an 8.95. Katherine Bergman of East Haddam earned fifth on all-around with a 35.75 and placed first on floor with a 9.3. She also scored a 9.3 on beam, placing her third. Christina Grace of Old Lyme came in sixth on all-around with a 35.3 and scored an 8.975 on floor to earn fourth place. Charlie Jacobson of Deep River placed sixth on vault with an 8.575 and also sixth on beam with an 9.125 for a 35.0 overall. Halley Pierson of Westbrook took home the bronze on beam with a score of 9.275 and earned fourth on bars with a solid 8.875. Sienna Joplin of Chester placed fifth on bars with an 8.85 with an all-around score of 34.275, and Carlee Harwood of Killingworth scored her highest on vault with an 8.5, finishing with a 33.25 on all-around.

The Level 8 team consisting of two athletes also had a successful meet Mia Lawrence of East Haddam finished with an outstanding all-around total of 34.225, which earned her third place. Lawrence scored an 8.875 on floor and an 8.75 on beam, placing her second in both categories. Ella Gibson of Essex placed second on all-around with a superb score of 34.15. Gibson placed first on beam with an 8.6 and second on vault with a 9.0.

Third place was awarded to the Level 7 team that featured Annie Berger, Sarah Cole, Julianna Gagliardi, Leah Frantz, and Rebecca Rosenblum-Jones. Leading the team to success was Gagliardi of Killingworth with an exceptional all-around score of 35.65, placing her second overall. Gagliardi came in first on floor with a 9.375 and second on bars with an 8.8. Cole of Chester earned third place on floor and beam with a 9.25 on floor and 8.825 on beam for an overall score of 33.725. Rosenblum-Jones of Killingworth placed fifth on beam with an 8.625 and also fifth on floor with an 8.95. Leah Frantz of Deep River placed sixth on vault with an impressive 8.725 and had an all-around score of 33.525. Annie Berger of Old Saybrook had her highest score on floor with 7.9 and finished on all-around with a 30.325.

Flip-Flop’s Level 6 team was represented by two athletes. Erin Ward of Chester finished with an impressive all-around score of 34.625, which placed her third overall. Ward also earned a spot in second place on floor with an 8.9 and third on beam with an 8.5. Ally Veins of Higganum placed sixth on floor with a solid score of an 8.7 and had an all around score of 32.2.

The Level 54 team finished strong with Julie Hart of Deep River supporting the team with a high all-around score of 34.05. Hart earned second place on bars and floor with an 8.85 on vault and a 9.15 on bars. Ava Mazzotta from Deep River had a successful all-around score with a 32.25, placing her in fifth place on balance beam with a 8.95. Talia Bauer of Old Saybrook placed sixth on bars with a score of 8.45, and Corallina Giuliano of Deep River earned a solid score of an 8.2 on bars.

Flip-Flop’s Level 3 team finished in third place overall with Megan Brown of Higganum leading the team average with a score of 34.45. Brown scored a 9.05 on balance beam to take fifth place. Emma Tanabe of East Haddam came in fourth on the floor exercise with a score of 9.075 and fifth on balance beam with an 8.9, earning a 34.075 on all-around. Haley Fosque of Westbrook finished with an all-around score of 33.975 and earned sixth place on vault with 8.65. Camille Pagliuco of Ivoryton scored a solid 9.2 on bars for second place and was fifth on all-around with a score of 33.55.
