The Walsh Intermediate School’s cross country program enjoyed a successful season this past fall. The boys’ team went undefeated with a record of 12-0 for the dual-meet season, while the girls’ team finished with a mark of 11-1. The girls went on to finish in seventh place at the State Championship meet, where 5th-grader Katie Harman was the team’s top finisher by placing 31st. The Walsh Intermediate boys’ team finished 15th in the state of Connecticut with 6th-grader TJ Wengler leading the way behind a 76th-place performance.

The 8th-grade students on the girls’ team were Isabella Finta and Juliana Torello. The 8th-graders who ran for the boys’ squad were Jack Moody, Colin Walsh, Ben Watson, and Patrick Zdunek. Head Coach Rich Biondi was assisted by John Case and volunteer Kent Jackson.

“I believe that the season was a tremendous success. The coaches emphasized to the children to work hard, be kind to one another, and to only worry about self improvement. The team records speak for themselves,” Coach Biondi said. “Furthermore, the parents and school administration provided a great deal of support. It was a pleasure to watch the children improve and to see the smiles on their faces when they competed well.”
