Huskies’ Girls’ Hoops Rallies to Beat Amistad; Boys Lose a Pair

Girls’ Basketball

The Morgan girls’ basketball team recently had a three-game slate and was victorious in one of those games for a 2-3 mark on the season. On Dec. 18, the Huskies were on the road against Shoreline Conference stalwart Cromwell and lost 58-28. Two days later, they picked up a 53-47 road win against Amistad. Then on Dec. 27, the Huskies lost to RHAM by the score of 57-20.

In the victory over Amistad, Morgan was bolstered by a strong showing from freshman Caitlyn Donaldo, who scored 27 points to go with five steals, eight rebounds, two assists, and a block on the night. The Huskies held a narrow 15-14 lead after the first quarter and, following a closely contested second quarter, the game was tied 29-29 at halftime. In the third quarter, Amistad outscored Morgan by a point to take a 38-37 edge. In the final period, the Huskies pulled away by outscoring Amistad 16-9 to emerge with the 53-47 victory.

In addition to the stellar play of Donaldo, Morgan received a solid contribution from sophomore post presence Leah McComiskey, who provided eight points and 11 rebound to go with a block and a steal. Senior captain Brianna Navarra scored six points, swiped three steals, and hauled in four boards, plus she also had two assists and a block.

In the loss against Cromwell, the Panthers got out to a 29-12 halftime advantage, and Morgan was unable to claw its way back into the game. Donaldo led the Huskies in scoring with her eight points, and she also supplied seven rebounds, five steals, a block, and an assist. Navarra had five points and three steals, while Rebecca Shamp scored six points and collected five rebounds.

Finally on Dec. 27, the Huskies were in Hebron to square off against RHAM and lost the contest by a 57-20 final.

Boys’ Basketball

The Huskies’ boys’ basketball squad dropped a pair of recent matchups to move to 1-2 for the year.

On Dec. 18, Morgan hosted a tough Cromwell squad and took a 76-48 defeat. The Panthers held a 25-13 lead after the first quarter on their way to the win.

Three days later, Morgan headed to Portland for a matchup against the Highlanders and lost by the score of 57-49.
