The Westbrook field hockey team made its usual postseason appearances this fall, while the Knights’ girls’ soccer squad got back in the playoff dance. Along with that, Marissa McNary continued Westbrook’s recent tradition of competing at the Class S Girls’ Swimming State Championship.

Field Hockey

One season after winning Shoreline and state titles, the Westbrook field hockey team notched a record of 9-5-5 and qualified for both the Shoreline Conference and Class S State tournaments this year. Westbrook took a 2-1 overtime loss to Valley Regional in the Shoreline semis. Then in states, the Knights defeated Notre Dame-Fairfield 1-0 before losing North Branford in the quarterfinals.

Head Coach Janet Dickey made a midseason adjustment by having goaltender Lauren Wright play the field to boost the Knights’ offense. Freshman Lauren Horne held down the net the rest of the way, and Westbrook also received key contributions from Avery Bauman, Carolyn Bauman, Kendall Orlowski, Alana Bochanis, and Katherine Dahl.

Girls’ Soccer

Westbrook qualified for the Class S State Tournament for the first time in eight years by posting six wins and a tie this fall. With Head Coach Rob McConville in his second season, the Knights shut out Amistad in each of their last two regular-season games to qualify for states.

Senior captain Erin Metcalf earned All-Shoreline Conference First Team honors and the Knights’ Offensive Most Valuable Player Award after leading the team scoring with 17 goals. Renee Perregaux was named to All-Shoreline Conference Second Team, while Alyssa Esposito and Christina Matute-Heredia both garnered All-Shoreline Honorable Mentions.

Boys’ Soccer

The Knights posted a 5-11 record for the season. Head Coach Gerald Carlone’s club posted two wins against Hale-Ray, as well as one versus Old Lyme, North Branford, and Amistad during the campaign.

Girls’ Swimming and Diving

Junior Marissa McNary swam to sixth place in a pair of events, while representing Westbrook as a team-of-one at the Class S State Championship. McNary posted a time of 2:18.13 in the 200 individual medley, and she also placed sixth in the 100 backstroke with a mark of 1:03.26.
